Choosing the Nexus 5X over the Nexus 6P

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Size is the real reason for me. Cant stand dealing with a phablet. A distant second would be price.

I will also say that I am by no means an advanced phone user. I bought the Nexus 4 the day it came out and have had it working great for me until just a couple weeks ago, ironically. I left it in the sun on my dash and it melted (the back pealed up and away from the body) but it still worked and I just slapped it into a phone case to sandwich back together lol - that is until I noticed the touch sensor no longer working in a small area not allowing me to type the letter L! And some other funny things too... decided to search for a new phone and by coincidence the 5X goes on sale the first day I started looking! I really wanted to stay with a small form factor like the N4, so this is next best. Another coincidence I just discovered is that they just discontinued updates for the N4. Sheesh, the 5X was meant for me.

But now that I have had a taste of Nexus Android updates and cannot go back. I'm a Google bobo I guess. :-$

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

"Google bobo" brings on smiles. The N4 is a great phone, yet we all want the more advanced technology.

One of the issues is the handling of web content and image data. Sometimes I click on a link, and it or its images do not open. So, I'm really looking forward to 4g and a stronger processor.

BTW, does anyone know the SAR Rating for the 5x and 6p? Thanks

Well, I actually just cancelled my 5x order. I was prepared to make all the known sacrifices...but ultimately no video EIS or OIS did me in. I take too many videos of the kids, and I gotta stop relying on my aging Lumia 1020. Maybe ill bite the bullet and go for an S6...

Re: 5x / 6p - Torn... And how to finangle my way into one.

The only comment I have ... is that when I went from a 4.7" to a 5.2" device and then from a 5.2" to a 5.96" device, both times it took less than a day for the new one to feel "normal" and less than a week for the old one to feel "small".

Then it took me 3 weeks to want to throw the N6 down a garbage disposal.

I originally canceled my order of the 5x but i am seriously reconsidering. I was thinking you know, we read all the negative points about these devices when they are announced when all we base it on is specs and label them "mid range" or "high end". For example, the gs6 is said to by "the best Android phone of the year" "high end"yet it has terrible battery life, known ram management issues and mine would crash often. My G4 is now randomly getting stick on 80% battery and the home launcher is constantly crashing . We look at these skinned phone specs and think anything less is poo poo when i believe we forget the power of optimazation. Are we also not taking into account the more efficient software released? Ram may be less of an issue..this isnt gingerbread, its Marshmellow. I also like that this phone has 2 of the most loved Moto feature in always listening and an active display type screen which is just awesome and a BIG plus over other phones, the screen resolution is preferred to me because of less power drain, the camara is supposed to be great dispite the lack of ois, the fingerprint scanner my g4 doesnt even have and is the future of mobile payments, the size is still managable and many of these other "phones of the year" have one speaker. At least this one is on the front!! Im probably still going to wait for a review or two but i think this phone will top many of the other "high end" phones based on pure Android and actual thought out optimization. Btw when comparing to the 6p, think of this..there simply has to be a phone released with comparable specs to others on the market. This phone is probably not going to run any smoother than the 5x but people have to have their metal frame, screen resolution and possibly need more ram if you're an app hog but again i dont think the 5x is less of a phone because of these exclusions.

This guy! Well said, dude. I couldn't agree more. Reading this has made my decision to go with the 5X even more positive. Cheers!

I'm happy with my moto x 2nd gen, however the Nexus 5X is tempting. The Nexus 5 was very popular and I've always wanted to own one.

Amen, brother or sister. Good thing about the preorder is that it can always be cancelled if the reviews start coming out bad, but I have high hopes.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

BNJF I agree with you 100% but still can't decide between the 2 for the sole reason of the size of the 5X is is still big for a 5.2in phone. It's basically the same size as my G4, while the 6p is basically the same width and is just taller. Width is the biggest factor to me...

Do I want the 5X very much so, but with the 6P only $70 more it's hard for me decide on the sole basis of bang for my buck. I wish they would release the Z5C in the US already...

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I ordered a blue 5X because I don't want a phablet but I want to jump to Project Fi. I'm going to hate to give up my OG Moto X. It's the best phone ever. Perfect size.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Plus, I loved the Nexus 5 and been hoping they'd give us an updated one ever since last year. Now that they did, I'm all over it. The better camera, larger battery, and fingerprint scanner all are just a few of the reason why I bought this.

I can't wrap my head around a finger print scanner on the back of the device. Just the complications around the case design, even without a case it seems like an odd place for it.

I think it's gonna work really well. I've been playing around with my current phone the last few days and that spot seems like a very intuitive, natural place to put your index finger when you first pick up the phone.

Big for a 5.2..i guess but i refuse to go any bigger than the G4. The 6p is still bigger in width slightly and big time in height. It would be uncomfortable for me i think. If you look at it compared to the iphone 6s plus, the 6p is almost the exact width and substantially taller. Thats a big phone man..! I need to fit the thing in my rear pocket sometimes for convenience and the 5x will fit nicely being slightly shorter than my G4 which was just a hair too tall. But i understand what your saying about the "bang for buck" if you are excited about the build, screen ect. The z5c will be a neat little phone although my z3c had horrible in call exterior speaker volume. Maybe they changed that. I just want to try stock Android i think. Someone please do some comparison videos!! :)

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Up till last night i had a N6 for Project Fi. Way, way too big compared to my GS6e I use on Sprint as a main phone. I got the N6 off Amazon 4 weeks ago. Over last couple weeks, it has been crackling and rings don't go through loud. I called Amazon last night, they offered to take it back and refund, they said it was easier than exchanging it. So they emailed me a return label, I dropped it off at UPS store today and the full refund is in my account this afternoon.

So I went and ordered a Nexus 5X white 32gb today and they already billed me for it.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

The 5X was an easy decision. I'm replacing a Droid Incredible 2. The phone is not a daily driver and spends most of its time on the bench.

This will be my first time with a non-removable battery and no SD card. So this is a good opportunity to get the experience.

This will also be my first phone which is not carrier branded and works across the major networks (and is Project Fi compatible). So it makes a good backup phone.

If i like the 5X I can definitely see buying a 6P as my first line handset.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I wanted a smaller phone.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

That article, in some ways, shows everything that is wrong with those of us that post on these forums. We get too caught up in the specs of our devices. Ultimately, what matters is how a phone performs in day-to-day tasks. This phone is a Nexus that is promised two years of support from Google. This means that Google will be developing Android to make sure it works with at least 2 GBs of RAM (if not even lower with Android One still being in existence).

The 5x is a phone for the masses. This is a phone for people like us to recommend to our family and friends who are not big into phones. For example, this is a perfect phone for my wife. It's easy for me to recommend it for her because I know the support that it will get. I could recommend this phone to my parents who are the definition of tech illiterate.

If people look past the specs, you'll realize that this is a damn good phone. It appears to have a lightweight version of Android, a good camera, at least two years of updates (three for security), costs significantly less than most high end phones, and works on all major carriers in the USA. I'd say this is a great play by Google.

Moto G already has that covered at a much cheaper price. At least in the family and friends non-techie group category. I think Google should have put this phone "clearly" one full step up from something like the Moto G. Gave it at least 3GB of Ram, more storage, and possibly a better screen (not bigger). In short, I think this phone is going to struggle against the strong mid-range contenders.

It doesn't matter to me. I was being sad for the guy who wanted it lol

I rarely if ever use the speakers on my phone so I don't care one way or the other. That being said most reviews I read said the speaker comparison from 5x to 6p is a big difference, in favor of the 6p obviously.

one reason I want front speakers is cause my son occasionally plays with my phone in the car. he sits in the backseat, so the speaker fires directly at me. front one(s) he'll hear better and they won't be facing me.
