Choosing the Nexus 5X over the Nexus 6P

Re: 5x / 6p - Torn... And how to finangle my way into one.

Weird, why?

It's a big heavy, unwiedly brick. The screen is beautiful. I am 6'0" with a 74" wingspan. I have large hands. I can not comfortably hold this heavy ugly brick in my hands. One hand texting is completely borked. Add to that, a pitifully small battery for such a large phone. I can't put this in my scrubs. Driving with this in your pocket is just not going to happen.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Moto G already has that covered at a much cheaper price. At least in the family and friends non-techie group category. I think Google should have put this phone "clearly" one full step up from something like the Moto G. Gave it at least 3GB of Ram, more storage, and possibly a better screen (not bigger). In short, I think this phone is going to struggle against the strong mid-range contenders.

yeah I tend to agree. I think it should've been a compact 6p basically ... almost every person that's commented on this site about wanting a smaller phone with high end specs would've preordered it yesterday.

lol, what does "wingspan" have anything to do with it! it's a phone, not the NFL draft ;-)

I'm just busting around, nothing personal pal, that made me laugh though!!

I have long arms, and large hands. I can not hold this ugly brick very easy. I will celebrate Oct 24th like it's Yom Kippur. For reals.

I had a Nexus 4 in desperate need of replacement so I jumped on that $350 deal a few weeks ago. it's my personal phone, so a lot of media, internet, etc so I love the size (5'7" 34" vertical ... sorry!).

I grabbed the 6p to replace my S4 for work. lots of emails, texts and calling. to your point, I wouldn't want to use the 6 all day, especially when I'm running around on sales calls, sending emails with a cup of coffee in one hand and cell phone in the other somewhere in Manhattan.

I'm considering grabbing the 5x so I can post a review with all 3 (at least that's the story I'll tell the wife). the thought of using the 6p for personal, 5x business and sell the 6 has crossed my mind.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

As an Iphone 5 user, thinking of turning to android. maybe 5X would be a better choice than any other android phone.
At least, can get the updated android OS as soon as possible.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

The 6p may have great specs and advanced technology. It is too large and heavy for me to get comfortable with. That being said, let's look at non removable battery - an issue for both my N4 and the 5x. About a year ago, a technician with the right tools opened the N4 and replaced the battery in a matter of minutes.

More than likely, I'll go for the 5x. The non expandable 32gb storage is an issue for me, as it is for others. Obviously, if the 5x had 64gb, it would cut into the sales of the 6p.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I think what sealed it for me was their choice to go 1080p vs QHD. The ability of the 808 to handle 1080p better than QHD should make quite the difference in performance. It also helps save battery life and makes the choice of a 2700 mah battery much more tolerable.

My two complaints on the original Nexus 5 were the battery and the camera. Google seemingly addressed both of those concerns, made it more powerful, added fast charging to further aid the battery issue, added double press on the power button to launch the camera, added a fingerprint scanner, and overall kept the general look and feel of the original. That's more than enough for me to spend $450 (after tax) on a 32GB Carbon Black one.

When the 5x is available, I want a white one. I generally use a dark Nillkin case and like the contrast.

Ah ok. My experience was pretty different. Do you tap to type or use gesture typing? We're about the same size, but I don't have to deal with wearing scrubs - that'd probably make a difference. I ride my motorcycle with this in my pocket and drive without issues, but again - different clothes probably? I also was pretty happy to hear about the battery size of it - the battery is enormous and battery life was fantastic on mine. This seems like the classic example of YMMV.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I picked up a 5x, Black, 32GB.

If you underwhelmed by the new 5x, you should check out the 2014 Moto X. I think you can still get one on Moto Maker for around $300. I have one. It's a great device. That said, I couldn't resist returning to a Nexus device.

The significant difference being the camera.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I want the 5X due to the size.

My only concern is the "burst mode" on the camera. I want to take photos of my 2 year old who never stops moving. I also want updates and stock Android, so the N5X seems to be the intersection of all of that.

How important will burst mode be to me?

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Ordered the Nexus 5X instead because of the size. I already have an iPhone 6 and that size is good enough for me for now.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

That being said I really wanted a 5X but am one of those people who has gotten used to wireless charging. So I figure if I'm not going to have that with either, the small price difference is worth the bump in specs.

Wait, whaaattt??? N5X or N6P does not have wireless charging? Are they insane?

My battery life is awful

This is a sticking point for a lot off people. It appears Google believes the fast charging outweighs the need for wireless charging, but that's little comfort to those who have invested $$$ in the system.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I ordered the 5x because the 6 is just too big and I really don't like that black bar in the back. Yes I wish it had the same specs but i'll live.

Re: 5x / 6p - Torn... And how to finangle my way into one.

Two reasons. First, the 6 is just too big for me. Second, the 5X is made by LG whereas the 6 is made by a company with a not so good track record when it comes to quality, updates and support.
