Chrome on Android desktop mode

Okay everyone, so I'm trying to edit a text file for a chrome on Android on my Nexus 6 to force it into desktop mode for as many websites on the internet that supported. Included is a link that I found online step by step tutorial especially if you are rooted. My question is this, has anyone tried this on their phone yet?
