Chromecast bug on certain phones? Razr, Bionic, etc.

Im also having the issue with the cast button not appearing in the Google Play Movies/TV app. Glad to know they are working on it.

Two distinct problems. My Bionic won't connect to chromecast at all. It discovers it (knows it's.name) but no connection. Tablet has no problem. Something wrong with chromecast app or OS on Bionic. Google please fix.

I need to keep an eye on this thread.

UPDATE: Today my Bionic grabbed an update of the Chromecast App.. and after installation, it WORKED. Now everything on Bionic just same as with Nexus 7. Excellent!

Your Bionic now can cast Google Play Music/Movies/TV and Netflix? I got the update and my Bionic now recognizes my Chromecast, but it still will not cast Google Play Music/Movies/TV and Netflix.

Just got a new update to the Play Music app version 5.1.1109K. Installed it on my Razr Maxx and I can now cast from my Play Music app to my Chromecast! No update yet for the Play Movies & TV app but assume it will be coming soon.

Good point. I checked it out, and YouTube does have the icon and plays through cast. Google music does also, works fine. Google Movies does not show the icon and neither does Netflix. So, it works "some".

I checked, and:
1) The bionic now recognizes the Chormecast
2) Youtube displays the CC icon, and plays through CC
3) Goggle Music displays the CC icon, and plays through the CC
4) Netflix and Google Movies/TW does NOT display the CC icon, so no way to play through the CC...

Looks like a partial fix. Better than nothing, less than complete.
Thanksfor asking for details tatas#AC !

I'm having this exact same issue on my Bionic. Can use YouTube not Netflix. The cast option doesn't appear. Prior to the chromeapp update I couldn't even connect to it to set up.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Well, 2 out of 4 apps now work as advertised on Razr/Maxx/Bionic. I have a feeling Google will update Google Movies/TV soon because it is a revenue generator. However Netflix just came out with an update recently that didn't fix this and they usually take forever so I'm sure that free 3 months of Netflix that came with the Chromecast will be expired by then.

Well this is clearly 100% a Google bug. How do I know? Because I am running a pure Google phone (Nexus 4) and official OTA update v4.3 image. Not rooted. Not ROMd. The Google Play Movies app fails to show a cast button and thus fails to stream my paid content (my rentals have expired already...thanks Google for an epic fail).

You see...Google thinks they are very bright and that all faults are either due to dumb customers or vendor changes that they don't control in the fragmented Android market. However, as my example clearly demonstrates, Google controls the entire chain from phone (purchasable on Google Play), OS image (official OTA image), Android Market (Play Store), all the way to the end user application (Google Play Movies and TV). And guess what? They still screw it up. Google engineers need to stop thinking they are smarter than everyone else and admit they are human and sometimes have epic failures that even QA doesn't seem to catch. Do they even have QA? Maybe Google should stop hiring Vince Vaughan and other lackluster interns to do their programming for their biggest consumer products and services.

So Google, fix it already and refund us our purchases for wasting our time and money...

I have the issue intermittently. Most of the time it works. When it doesn't I am missing the Chromecast button in Music, Movies and TV, and YouTube. The Chromecast app can't find it either. Netflix, however, is able to see it just fine and my Nexus 7 apps as well. After a reboot of my phone it works again. Everything is up to date. I am running a Razr HD MAXX. It almost seems like a service or app that Google users for their things is failing but I can't figure it out and can't seem to find what triggers it.

Same problem with my Motorola ATRIX smartphone. No Chomecast icon on either YouTube or Netflix.
Latest Netflix, Youtube and Chomecast apps have been installed

Google is pushing out an updated Chromecast build 13300 right now, I hope this addresses this issue.

Contacted Chromecast support with same issue on my Bionic. Here is response...

Hello Nathan,

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, devices using droid bionic do not currently support a version of Netflix that is compatible with Chromecast.

You can visit Whats My User Agent?
on the device that does not operate Neflix with Chromecast, if you see one of the following user agents:

- DROID BIONIC
- SPH-D70
- LG-P

... then your device is not supported by a version of Netflix that is compatible with Chromecast.

Thanks,

Amanda
