Color me stupid, but (shared plan savings)...

no one is forcing you into the shared everything plan. You can maintain your legacy plan and get upgrades. If you have unlimited data though, then you would not be able to keep it if you upgrade via a subsidized 2 year contract. You could buy full retail or used or whatever and still maintain unlimited data.

Very true.

It does mean, however, that when I decide to upgrade to a new phone (eligible this fall), I'm gonna be spending more money one way or the other.

Knowing that I'd need to pay full retail to keep my plan almost makes me want to grab a new Galaxy SIII now, but I'd still wait a month or so for full retail price to drop a bit.

Related to corporate discounts/corporate users:

Is anyone paying an extra $15 fee to use Good Messaging? Some of the fee information said there was a $15 fee under the new plans to use Good. But when I asked VZWSupport about this, they said there has always been a $15 fee to use Good in the current/old plans.

I'm not currently paying the $15 fee, nor is anyone at my company. What I'm wondering is why I don't currently have to pay it, and will they try to add it on when I switch to the new plan?

I posted this in the general android section yesterday. Because what I saw happen in front of me made me so mad.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/191408-fcc-requiring-data-caps-all-2015-a.html

Because I went to the verizon store to see if the new plans were a viable savings for me. I have 1400 min, unlimited text and data on my Tbolt and a mifi with unlimited data and for both I pay $175 a month.

Now you might ask why have both well that was because before my tbolt I had a Blackberry and needed the myfi for my laptop and tablet, and when i upgraded to my tbolt I was still under contract with my mifi.

And while i`m at it lol what really gets my goat is people who judge us larger data users as hogs. I mean really now that is the most childish responce. If I paid for unlimited I dont see thier problem. I do believe most of the unlimited data users didnt get it to share it with the world but because it was the best option for their use, and because it took the worry of overages out of the financial equation. I dont think anyone who uses lots of data needs to explain them selfs to anyone, they paid for unlimited period. To just categorize all high data users in the same group is just plain ignorant.

/rant off

have a great day :)

Sorry, but it isn't like DSL or such, where you tend to have parallel data lines and your abuse isn't hurting others. If you are swamping a cell tower, you are going to slow down many other users. There aren't that many channels to go around, and probably not that high of a hard line rate feeding the tower to begin with.
If you don't like the word 'hog', then you can use the word 'selfish' if you prefer.

But the new data plan rates are 99.999% unrelated. The reality is that Verizon is simply greedy. This is a positive thing for families that want to move their spouse and children to Verizon. So Verizon will grow revenue there. More people will share plans and switch to smart phones, paying Verizon more. But they are discriminating against the single person that doesn't have a family to share the data plan with. That persons cost will go way up, and their amount of data they can use goes way down.
Greedy bastards, simple as that. They needed to add something to the plans costs to help the individuals a bit IMHO.

Unlimited is dead. It's been dead for new customers for a long time now. It's going to die off for grandfathered customers as they upgrade through Verizon.

That said, I'd appreciate if Verizon did these-

Lowered the cost of each bucket by at least $10.

Gave the option to use a smartphone with only 500 minutes/500 or 1000 texts for $20 access vs. unlimited talk/text for $40.

existing customers can keep unlimited so long as you don't buy a subsidized phone with a 2 year contract.

They take the discount off the data. That's what I was told when I called

...I gave up my grandfathered unlimited data plans today in favor or a shared everything plan. We have two lines...one with an iPhoney 4 and one with the T-Bolt. The T-Bolt had unlimited data for both the phone and mobile hotspot, while the iPhone had 2GB/2GB, I think. I combined them into an 8 GB shared plan, which will have PLENTY of reserve (we could have actually squeaked by on a 4 GB plan) and it will save us $70 per month.

What is a data abuser? I pay my bill on time and I have unlimited. They don't feed the leftover data to hungry kids do they?

So, if you have mobile hotspot on your devices and you're not a data abuser, you might be able to save a lot of money by switching to the new plans.

It was still a little hard to give up those unlimited plans whether really needed or not though, since we will probably never get them back.

When sprint get to my area in a few months we have to switch if we want to save money and get new phones. Kinda sucks I love the network, hate the cost. We will save 50 a month....

Just double check that the coverage that Sprint offers in your area is acceptable. I've always felt that if my phone doesn't work nearly everywhere than its not worth the cost.

Exactly. Savings isn't really savings if the network is unreliable

This is current sprint coverage map
Areas in purple that is 3g should be the same coverage for the new LTE network as Sprint has stated that if you have 3g coverage? you will have 4g LTE when the network is competed.
Sorry if the Page shows voice coverage?
Simply click on data. On the top left corner of the map
Hopefully, unlimited is still around when network vision is completed?

I have been following this for awhile now. I pay roughly $350 for 5 smart phones. 2100 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. I dont use 2100 minutes. But I like to have them just in case. If I switch over to this shared thing and get 8 gigs I would save about $50 a month. It's something to think about. This and next month I will be keeping an eye on all the data used to see how much the kids are using on avg. But again it is something to think about.
