Compilation of RANDOM REBOOTING issue - advanced users, please read and help.

as i posted a few days ago i have not had a single reboot since i removed an app. i suggest paying attention to what was happening just before the reboot. that might tell what changes could help

darrylb - You make a good point. It may not be a specific application. Paying attention to changes made to the device will always help in trying to figure out what to roll-back.

I tried to turning off my "Data Roaming" and "Always on mobile data" about an hr back and my phone restarted itself 10 mins back. [never happened before] (I did it to save battery according to report) I have no crappy apps and yes I do get about 8-10 hrs on moderate usage - still wanted to get the max outta it . But looks like turning these two options off will force the phone to restart so I have turned these two on I will see if the phone restarts (I doubt though)

Hope this Helps

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd follow up since I started this thread. I have had the "Always on mobile data" enabled since my last random restart and I haven't had a single restart for 7 days now. Looks like that was the culprit. And I'm none too thrilled about it, but at least there's an answer. Maybe the OS update will address this happening. A user should be able to select this option without adverse effects.

Random Rebooting - More Feedback

I have only had my EVO a short time. I had an opportunity to use GPS on a short driving trip today. The phone rebooted twice during the trip. It was plugged in to a charger the whole time. Both times that the device rebooted, I was using Google Navigation and I tried to place a phone call at the same time. Hope this helps with troubleshooting.

I've had about 2 random resets on me since launch day. I couldn't track down any sort of correlation between the resets.

I would suggest buying or borrowing a microSD card to experiment. Perhaps a name brand class 6? I know that more than a class 2 wouldn't improve phone performance, but hey, it doesn't hurt.

I only get resets when the "always on mobile data" is set to OFF. I would like to keep it that way since my battery doubles with it off. Anyone figure out a fix for this other than leaving it checked and draining the battery?

Ok, so the original poster talked about an issue with the SD card, has anyone changed out SD cards and seen an improvement in rebooting? I have had too do a factory reset 3 times now in as many weeks to get my EVO to function.

i personally have only had issues when on phone calls (not plugged in, not rooted) occassionally when on rather important calls ill feel the convos gone quiet then feel a vibration on my face, when i look at the phone it only shows the boot screen, you know the bright white one that makes your eyes wanna hide, it only started a day or two ago and im a launch day user... any suggestions?

My evo resets every time I use a GPS based app. I have seen it reset using Google Maps, Sprint Navigation and the Compass app. I was previously using GPS based apps with no issues and while using Goggle maps today, noticed that the accuracy was way off. I decided to power the phone off and power back on, and it has been resetting itself ever since (but only when using GPS based apps). I have seen other threads like "Evo resetarts when using google maps" so I know I am not the only one with this issue. How about everyone else on this thread? What were you doing when the crash occurred?

I am new to Android, only had my evo for about a week. I keep reading about hard resets and factory resets. Can someone explain what these are and how to do them? I have tried powering off and powering on with no luck. I have also tried removing the battery and then powering back on with no success. If I can't get GPS apps to work then this thing is going back pronto!! Please help.

Update: Hard reset seems to have fixed me up for the time being. Not sure what got hung up but restarting from scratch seemed to do the trick.

Mine just rebooted while trying to type a text using Swype.

When it came back up, I looked in the Facebook sync settings (after reading someone's suggestion), and sure enough, it showed a FB sync had happened at exactly that minute it crashed.

I have now disabled FB syncing. Hopefully it helps.

My Evo reset itself yesterday about 5 times in a half hour. I believe that is the first time it ever happened, maybe one other time I'm not sure. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but up until last night I hadn't installed the 6/28 or 6/29 updates. I updated late last night, (6/30 going on 7/1) and today my phone seems a lot better. No resets and the battery has definitely improved. I hope the update fixed whatever was happening because I didn't toggle any settings I had previously switched nor removed any apps recently downloaded.

Has anyone experienced random rebooting post-update?

Since I exchanged my Evo, I haven't had one restart (at least one that I have noticed). I did have it freeze once, but I think this was from Launcher Pro, not from Sense.

My EVO seems to reboot when running the navigation and I get a phone call. The call stays connected for 3 mins then reboot happens, bug

I have had my phone reboot twice. Both times I had navigation running when a call came in. A minute or so into the call the phone reboots.

Mine is rebooting when I start navigation. Either one, Sprint or Google.I did a hard reset (which was not fun due to all of the personalizing I have done to my phone), and that fixed the problem for about three days, but then it happened again this morning, and since I had already talked to CS I went to the Sprint store and they ordered me a replacement this morning. Said I should get it in a couple of days.
