(Windows Vista 32bit recommended for certified success)
Today I am a very happy camper. I successfully installed Cyanogenmod 7 on my Optimus V, and I would love to explain how I did it so others out there can do it also without scoping all corners of the internet to get compatible files.
I advise to backup everything including a ROM backup before you do this just in case. I do it using my premium Rom Manager app.
First off you need the Java Development Kit and the JRE also (Download all Windows x86 versions of both for Vista): Java SE Downloads
Then you need the Android Development Kit: Android SDK | Android Developers (I recommend the r11 ZIP so you can drag and drop it to your C: drive)
Once the ADK is downloaded, extract it and drag it over to C: and rename it so it looks like C:\android with everything still in that folder.
Now download this custom pack of files I uploaded with everything else in it: CM7 Optimus V Files (6-17-11).zip
Now mount your SD card via phone and drag gapps-gb-20110120 and update-cm-7-03012011-NIGHTLY-thunder-virginmobile-Xionia-signed to the root of your SD. Do not extract them.
Next extract ROMTools.v231.by.mmmark111v(1) to your desktop.
Run ROMtools.exe.
Choose 2. which is Flash Recovery to phone.
Choose 1. Optimus V
Then choose 1. Install drivers, obtain r00t, and flash the recovery.
Let it install all 3 drivers, then plug in your phone. Don't forget to put it in debugging mode!
Let SuperClick run its course by rooting your phone.
Then it will tell you it will install the custom recovery. DO NOT CONTINUE!!!
Next extract xionia-cwma-12518.4_virgin, and rename the img file to recovery.img Move both files to the ROMTools folder on your desktop. Replace the original files.
Then let it continue to install and flash the custom recovery, as it is now Xionia.
Your phone will now reboot into recovery!
You should see all blue text. Next, use the volume and camera button to move your way around the menu. Choose wipe data/factory reset.
Then go to Mounts and Storage.
Format the Boot, the System, the Data, and the Cache.
Then go back and choose Install zip from SD card.
Choose Choose zip from sdcard.
Choose the update-cm-7-03012011-NIGHTLY-thunder-virginmobile-Xionia-signed.zip and let it install.
Then go do the same thing to gapps-gb-20110120.zip.
Then choose Reboot system now!
You are all done with the hard stuff! You will see the LG logo show up a little different. The famous Blue CM7 android will follow next. That is your sign that you did it correctly!
Skip the Google account setup when it shows up automatically. Do it by going to the market after it has booted.
That should have covered it all. If there is any problems let me know as I will definitely go back to fix anything I might of forgot.
Good luck!
