(Windows Vista 32bit recommended for certified success)

Today I am a very happy camper. I successfully installed Cyanogenmod 7 on my Optimus V, and I would love to explain how I did it so others out there can do it also without scoping all corners of the internet to get compatible files.

I advise to backup everything including a ROM backup before you do this just in case. I do it using my premium Rom Manager app.

First off you need the Java Development Kit and the JRE also (Download all Windows x86 versions of both for Vista): Java SE Downloads

Then you need the Android Development Kit: Android SDK | Android Developers (I recommend the r11 ZIP so you can drag and drop it to your C: drive)

Once the ADK is downloaded, extract it and drag it over to C: and rename it so it looks like C:\android with everything still in that folder.

Now download this custom pack of files I uploaded with everything else in it: CM7 Optimus V Files (6-17-11).zip

Now mount your SD card via phone and drag gapps-gb-20110120 and update-cm-7-03012011-NIGHTLY-thunder-virginmobile-Xionia-signed to the root of your SD. Do not extract them.

Next extract ROMTools.v231.by.mmmark111v(1) to your desktop.

Run ROMtools.exe.

Choose 2. which is Flash Recovery to phone.

Choose 1. Optimus V

Then choose 1. Install drivers, obtain r00t, and flash the recovery.

Let it install all 3 drivers, then plug in your phone. Don't forget to put it in debugging mode!

Let SuperClick run its course by rooting your phone.

Then it will tell you it will install the custom recovery. DO NOT CONTINUE!!!

Next extract xionia-cwma-12518.4_virgin, and rename the img file to recovery.img Move both files to the ROMTools folder on your desktop. Replace the original files.

Then let it continue to install and flash the custom recovery, as it is now Xionia.

Your phone will now reboot into recovery!

You should see all blue text. Next, use the volume and camera button to move your way around the menu. Choose wipe data/factory reset.

Then go to Mounts and Storage.

Format the Boot, the System, the Data, and the Cache.

Then go back and choose Install zip from SD card.

Choose Choose zip from sdcard.

Choose the update-cm-7-03012011-NIGHTLY-thunder-virginmobile-Xionia-signed.zip and let it install.

Then go do the same thing to gapps-gb-20110120.zip.

Then choose Reboot system now!

You are all done with the hard stuff! You will see the LG logo show up a little different. The famous Blue CM7 android will follow next. That is your sign that you did it correctly!

Skip the Google account setup when it shows up automatically. Do it by going to the market after it has booted.

That should have covered it all. If there is any problems let me know as I will definitely go back to fix anything I might of forgot.

Good luck!

This is AOSPcm7 correct? because I thought that this phone is not officially supported by CM7.

This guide is for zefie's CM7. That rom is rather old and MMS does not work on it. You may want to consider using AOSP's CM7. You can follow these same steps, but use AOSP's rom instead. You may want to use a more up to date gaaps as well. You can find that in the AOSP thread too.

MMS certainly works on mine. The proximity sensor is buggy though, takes a minute for it to adjust back to normal. No shortcut for Camcorder, have to go to Camera to get to it. Everything else is fine so far.

Rom Manager doesn't support Xionia version recovery well.

This ROM works for me as I am sure it will work for any other Optimus V untill next big VM Android OS update or so. If i have the need to update I will certainly do so, and advise to others.

ROMTools is the best way to flash recovery safely. Just rename whatever recovery you choose to recovery.img. It is a universal method.

I would avoid using OTA updates that virgin mobile sends you a lot of the times it will make you lose your root and you will be stuck with stock again. Also Zefies while a good ROM is beyond outdated. Start using Aosp if you want CM7 it works a lot better then Zefies old abandoned project, granted it has bugs but it is more in tune for our phone then Zefies's which seems to be a port from the optimus S. The senor bug alone was enough to get me to leave that one alone, its annoying to not be able to use the dial pad during a call or to be able to hang up and go back to the home screen.

I think they just need to label that ROM as dead. It''s a good ROM but unless someone can take over its never going to be what it should be.

Zefies works good for about a month before you start getting frequent force closings of nearly every app.

DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER. Do this right or you will get your phone bricked. Take a look at the stickies in the all things root section and go from there.

I would just..
1. Get rooted
2. Install Rom managaer, flash a backup and get the recovery.
3. Go into recover ( Home, vol up, power)
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Advanced ---> Clear dalvick cache
6. Mount and storage ---> Format everything but the sd card (boot, data, system etc.)
7. Install zip from sd card ---> Find the Rom you downloaded, install it
8. When its done, go back to main start and reboot system.
For new users i'd get a rom that COMES with gapps.
Just putting my input

Do not advise people to use rom manager, unless you are willing to be responsible for all the people that come complaining about how it broke their phones, please.

Dude this thread is outdated and using Rom Manager is not safe it would flash a incompatible recovery for OV's with the Hitachi screen and would cause more problems than good.

Whatttt, im not talking about flashing roms through it but using the recovery?

My bad (need to start paying attention in English class more), but it still flashes a incompatible recovery with the new OVs
