Complete SD Card Failure

I've never seen, heard of or had an SD card failure until today. Seems strange to me that I've had this card in use for almost two years without an issue, but have it fail a couple weeks after upgrading to Nougat (Moto Z Play Droid).

There were no warnings whatsoever. The card became invisible to the OS. I tried the card in my laptop, but it was totally unrecognizable there as well. I've never heard of an SD card failing this way.

Could Nougat have caused this issue?

On the photography forum I'm on people complain about SD cards failing all the time. High end DSLRs usually use CF cards.

Wow. That's the 1st I've heard of that and I've used them for years. Thanks for the reply.

SD cards are notorious for failing. A friend of mine in the industry told me that all SD cards use bottom-of-the-barrel memory chips -- even the top brands like Sandisk. Never rely on SD cards as the sole storage for important data.
