I'm on Fi and considering grabbing the 4xl with the 50% rebate in bill credit promotion. I've had the Nexus 6P and the Pixel 2 XL over the last 4 years, so I'm concerned about loss of the FPR as it's just SO convenient.

How is everyone adapting? Does it take long?

Battery life isn't a HUGE concern for me, I'm typically within range of a charger 90% of the time. The only other concern for me is the loss of the unlimited photos backup.

Thanks

FPR? Do you mean FPS? That's why I bought my Pixel 2 - right before a method of faking the FPS (no, you can't do it at home) was discovered. I needed security, and someone could be watching my hand typing the PIN. 2D facial recognition? Make sure no one takes a picture of you.

I just set up face unlock and WOW I'm impressed! Super fast. I'm just letting it bypass the lock screen. I don't miss the FPR/FPS at all.

I made my decision - keeping the 2xl as my main device for now. Figure that with a refurbished device as my warranty replacement it should be good to go for the next 18 months. Have the "new" one pretty well set up, spent my afternoon at work doing that since there wasn't anything else to do...

Reader/Sensor take your pick...

I had to send my Pixel 4 XL back for a warranty replacement because my Face Unlock wasn't recognizing my face on the lock screen. The setup was fine but when I would go to unlock it with my face, it wouldn't recognize it. I tried everything to get to get it to work. Safe mode, deleting Face data, factory reset. Nothing worked. Luckily I didn't wipe my S9 yet, so I'm back on that until my replacement comes next week.

I've made peace with Face Unlock, but would have preferred the addition of the FPS and would use it solely, if it were present on my 4XL.

One thing that bothers me immensely is the fact that many of my important apps still do not support Face Unlock (whereas they did support the FPS) and there is no telling when - or even if - they ever will.

I think you should be fine adapting to face id , it pretty fast and accurate. I've had mine for couple days I think it's best phone Google put out of all generation.
