Latest update for power toggels adds access to camera and ability to store and transmit photos from your camera as I understand it.

In my book that kind of function earns an automatic uninstall.

I loved power toggels. What possible legit use could cause the dev to add photo logging!??

He explains in the description that it's for the flashlight to work. Ya know, to use the camera's flash as a flashlight.

The app is so awesome, and the dev has proven himself to be so responsive and thoughtful, that I would definitely give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is why you should always read everything before making a post like this.

Actually..this warning is pretty specific and it definitely requires I put my "trust". In a guy who may be great...but I don't know. Sooo.. its a permanent uninstall for me.

I also just uninstalled Kapersky for similar reasons and I paid $9.00 for that app.

Latest update gives permission to record all browsing history and url's...any update that reduces privacy from purchase is a no go for me.

MAYBE if you emailed the software company and asked why their app needed certain permissions, you wouldn't seem like such a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Seriously, just ask before assuming.

Yes, if the developer was doing something bad do you think they would tell you if you emailed them? Check Mate.

Even if the dev had total control of the camera, I'm not sure what use it would be for his evil purposes. It's not like I have access to state secrets or Angelina Jolie's boobs or anything.

I really hate that it added an icon in the notification bar after update.

My point is I always read the permissions...I suspect you guys do too on first install but most people don't read the updates! So when a developer alters permissions in a way that I would never accept initially I smell bait and switch even if its not warranted. Been buying cars too long I guess. Answer me this...Why do I need to control flashlight with power toggles anyway? I m o Camera control is a lot of permission to ask for a very small benefit.

I think Privacy matters. Sue me! It cant recovered after it is violated!

You make very good points. When devs update apps that require new permissions, it is always a Manual Update, so that always prompts me to look at the new permissions. The reason to control the flashlight with Power Toggles is that it is a handy toggle to have--there are plenty of times (especially emergencies) when you might need a flashlight, and your phone is all you have. But in order to control the flashlight, the app needs camera permission, because the LED flash is a camera function. I believe that this was a relatively new permission because before this update, only a small percentage of the LED flashes on phones could be controlled by the toggle--in order to increase the number of phones it could work on, the dev had to add that permission.

An example of the utility of having your phone as a flashlight:

I was in LA during the Northridge quake in '93. Having been a relatively recent transplant from the East Coast, I was brought up by my parents to have a few flashlights lying around in case of emergency (like for hurricanes or blizzards that cut out the power). After the quake, everyone was gathered outside in the dark (the quake struck in the early morning). I was the only person I saw who had flashlights--however, EVERYONE had their cellphone. Since it was '93, of course, none of those phones worked as flashlights!
