We just chatted with a samsung rep asking about the condition of a trade. His phone has no cracks or chips, but it has burn in. I said they'd likely reduce the trade in value, but the rep said he'd get the full value. What say you? Would you trust a Samsung chat rep? Just how much weight would a screen shot of the chat hold?

Too many horror story with Samsung on trade ins .

I have traded screen with burn in to Samsung during the S10 pre order and it went thru without any issues. They accepted the trade in without any issues. I got the used Note 8 locally just for trade in propose and noticed it had visible burn in. I got it got cheap and only observed later but luckily wasn't a issue for the trade in. Rest of the phone was perfect.

Obviously your mileage may wary. Also, chatting with Samsung won't help much since the reps are clueless on most things.

And Samsung doesn't stand by what their reps say, even if you have it in writing. But since bhatech didn't have a problem, maybe they don't deduct for burn-in. (If they did, they'd probably do it to a few attorneys or reporters, who would make it known world-wide, and it's worth eating a few screens for them to keep something like that going public. The cost:benefit ratio is just too high.)

If I had to guess, they'll reduce the value as long as the burn-in is obvious when they turn the phone on. And considering the background is white with those launch screens, it may indeed be obvious.

My exact thought. The burn in is clear at start up. I personally wouldn't take the chance. He'd get a confirmed price by selling it...or just keep it as a backup.

Agreed. My wife likes Samsung, but we do our trades direct with our carrier. Even if it isn't the best price, it's worth it because they are more forgiving with trade in conditions and warranty exchanges are handled by them as well (and for the better). We've never dealt with Samsung direct for anything.

I buy directly with carrier then flash to unlocked firmware, I deal with Samsung for warranty things that's about it . If I were to buy unlocked Samsung , it be from bestbuy and maybe a trade in , at least I know I'm not getting Mickey mouse around but it will be less then Samsung offer for sure.

I just simply go to Swappa and sell my phone at a reasonable price. Dealt with Samsung before and not about to do it again

Just change the wallpaper to solid black. If you can't fine one, go into a room with no windows, at night, with the flash off, and take a picture with the lens held tight against your shirt and body. Use that picture as your wallpaper. Unless you have a few very white icons on the home screen, "what burn-in?"

The problem is the launch screens. The ones that show the Samsung and carrier logos as soon as you turn the phone on (along with the set-up screen). Those are typically all-white. Home screen wallpaper shouldn't be relevant since one would presumably reset the phone before trading it in.

I have traded in my last 2 Notes directly with Samsung and got full value. I use a case and holster (yes I'm an old guy) so mine always look like new. No problems so far.

I do the same thing. Never an issue with Samsung but I do package that thing very well.

I bought my last 2 phones with Samsung direct since deal was best for trade in. No problem with either. But if I trade in my note 9 it has small crack left corner screen works fine.

I have an iPhone 6s with a crack at the top left corner not on the screen per se but rather in the white part of the bezel. Technically the screen is not cracked? If I check cracked screen the trade in drops from 300 to 150. Should I roll the dice at 300 or check the box? If I go for the 300 and they reject me, will it just be 150 or will I get hit with the 25?
