Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

Even though the Verizon nexus one will just be a CDMA version of it, you still gotta realize in order to activate it you still gonna have to probably activate it the same way you activate other Verizon phones by calling #228 and entering your Verizon account information (unlike just putting in a SIM card and the phone working like the T-mobile and AT&T version)....so I'm assuming that Verizon has something to with the release date hold up

Right, and the Nexus still has to be tested on Verizon's CDMA network and I can't imagine they would have nothing to do with that either.

If the Sprint Nexus One release date is said to be true, (end of April) I would assume/hope Verizon's version is available before or around the same time. I would be very disappointed if the Sprint N1 comes out first.[/QUOTE]

I'd be more than a little disappointed. This phone was announced in Janurary with the T-Mobile version and the Sprint version was only announced a week or so ago. If the Sprint one came out first, I'd be pissed!

Again this why there is no reason to talk to a in store cell phone reps. They know very little about anything, besides plans. This will not be sold in stores! If you guys read Sprint press release...this is exactly how VZW's will be sold as well.

And here's even more reason not to talk to a VZW rep... I was in the VZW store an hour ago, and asked about the N1. The guy said they were having problems with it... youtube not working right, blah blah blah. He said it wouldn't be available until (get this) Christmas! He also said the same for the Desire (meaning the Desire is coming to VZW?), but he had not even heard of the Incredible.

So there ya go. VZW reps have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. The thing that's really disappointing is, instead of them saying "I don't know", they instead say something that makes absolutely no sense.

I agree with this but actually you can activate your phone through Google.com/phone. I'm sure you will be able to do it the other way as well.

I just got back from picking up a droid from best buy as a temporary phone until the nexus one drops. But they were talking like they were gonna be selling the vzw models at the best buy which i thought was weird. But they had no realease date info. Sounds like the hold up is how the phones are gonna be sold. Hopefully they figure it out soon.

I was completely surprised when it was announced a couple weeks ago that the Nexus One will now support AT&T's service

Then, out of nowhere Sprint finally announce that they'll carry the N1 as well...

I figured, since it was already announced months ago that Verizon will carry it, Verizon would be second in line to receive it. Now, it seems like Sprint COULD carry it before Verizon.

Personally, I believe they will come out at the same time, and (sorry), the percieved delay in Verizon's release is due to working out with both carriers how phone assignments will work. I believe they'll end up just selling the same unsubsidized version and Google will have Sprint and Verizon activate those regardless of IDs. Because for both ends, keeping separate batches of the same phones is an administrative cost neither side would want to front.

Then hopefully there'll be subsidized deals, but I'm buying one either way.

It would be easier for AT&T to carry it before Verizon or sprint because it was already made for a GSM carrier, AFter that I thought Verizon would of gotten it 3rd

Engadget is reporting that it'll be out by the end of next week, and others are saying that it'll launch in April with a surprise. April makes sense, however, I don't know what the surprise could be.

I have 3 guesses, and only 2 make sense:
  1. World phone (CDMA + GSM)
  2. Sold in VZW stores as well as on google.com/phone
  3. The HTC Incredible is being launched alongside the N1

I think 2&3 are more likely than 1.

I agree with 2. It definitely wont be a world phone. And I can see the Incredible being released after the N1 - late April or May.

I would think the surprise is a bit more simple...like pre installed Skype mobile?

Wouldn't bet the farm on it being sold in VZW stores considering Equipment Guide site saying only sold on http://www.google.com/phone

I completely agree with this and am actually hoping for it. I do not want to see sold N1s in stores. I don't want a phone that everyone else has! It's stupid I know, just how I like it. It would defeat Google's own purpose, for Google to p#ss away their sales model and start selling them in the store. The "World Phone" I don't believe would hold up or it would have been indicated on the FCC findings. And I don't see the advantages for either company to release similar phones at the same time, in which one will be sold in stores and advertised the hell out of by VZW, and the other will only be sold online and not advertised by VZW at all. I don't really know, all of my interpretations could be completely false and I could be wrong, but going off of how Google seem to want to do things now...this is how I see it.
