Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

I wish they had not pre released a date in any way shape or form. I bet ATT users are so excited to find out they can get their nexus one today, what a great surprise.....C'mon Verizon, drop it on us now. I want my N1.

After seeing that the N1 for ATT is available unlocked only, wonder what the chances are that it will be possible to get a discounted phone for use on vzn?

Those $25 Droids are mighty tempting...

You get what you pay for. I would rather pay 529 for an unlocked nexus one, then 1 for 179 and suck in a 2 year contract.

That's where Verizon has the advantage. I have no qualms about staying with them for another 2 years if they'll pay for most of my phone. In my experience, they have the best coverage, and that's most important to me.

Same. I've been with Verizon for over 10 years, and I have never been dissatisfied by the coverage. Only thing I've despised is their terrible phone selection (until now).

Why would you not let your phone company subsidize your phone if you know you are going to stay with them? I too am not planning on leaving Verizon and have no problems signing another 2 year contract with them.

I wish Google and Verizon would get their act together. Just announce the freakin' release date for God's sake. I'm tempted to wait on the Incredible. I'm tired of this crap. I do not like this secretive marketing ploy. Bite me Google and Verizon!

I have been a customer for Verizon as well for 10+ years. It is not that I plan on changing companies, but do not want to be stuck with a phone for two years, and not wanting Verizon deciding when I should receive upgrades to my OS etc.... Not to mention the only people that would be able to get a Verizon subsidized phone would be those that are up for renewal and I am not one of those people.

Verizon doesn't use SIM cards in their phones...

Is that a fact? Can anyone confirm? I've never heard of a wireless provider that does not provide a sim card... but then again.. i've never been on VZ before, and planning to get a new contract with them (not minding the 2 year sentence) only because they're the best coverage provider in my area (NYC)

It's a fact - pure cdma phones (I.e. non world phone verizon phones) do not have Sim cards because its a different technology under the Hood.

I'm on a similar boat in NYC... but as mobilemedic20 said, most pure CDMA phones don't have SIM cards. Only World Phones like the Verizon HTC Imagio CDMA&GSM Smartphone have a slot for a GSM SIM that you can use when you travel. We still don't know if the version of the N1 that's going to be released by Verizon is a World Phone. If it is, then I might reconsider buying my N1 from Verizon or Google for use in the Verizon network.

I'm an AT&T costumer and my contract expired about a week ago. So, I'm the market for a N1 and waiting to hear from the AT&T N1 early adopters about their experiences in the AT&T 3G network. I'd also would like to hear some sort of announcement from AT&T regarding no-contract plans or regular contract that take into account that you're not using a subsidized phone like the N1 bought directly from Google. I considered the t-mobile N1, but their 3G network is not as extensive or as robust as AT&T's. But... t-mobile has no-contract plans that take into account the cost of an unsubsidized phone. They have plans that are tailored specifically to accommodate subsidized and unsubsidized N1s. I'm hoping that Verizon and AT&T will follow the t-mobile model as it relates to contracts for the N1 bought from Google.

I know it's hard to understand what Google is trying to do...they are not trying to out sell the iPhone or the Droid first and foremost. Their main focus is to change the way mobile phones are sold. They are trying to minimize the middle man. Now of course they want to sell a million phones to make more money, but the way I see it they aren't a phone company and they have enough money to do this little experiment. I do agree with everyone that if they did more advertising and had them in store...they could sell a landslide of phones. However if you look at what their main goal is...it's pretty unique and it seems to be doing well comparatively. Plus their overhead is amazing low compared to anyone else! I'm not an economics major, but the less overhead you have means more profit you make, even if you're selling less than competitors.

I'm sorry, do you work for Google? How is it you know what their intention is with the Nexus One? How are they changing anything significant by selling a phone online only? Are you refering to everyone's dream of being able to buy any phone and use it on anyone's network?

I don't think they're looking to make the world a better place, cure cancer or end all violence, at least not in this instance. I think they're edging their way into the mobile phone market and they want to maintain some level of control over their product. That's it.

Just a short rant...so shortly after releasing the N1 for TMo Google says the VZ version is coming in the spring of 2010. They don't mention anything about AT&T until yesterday and they get it first?!?! Sorry, It's just driving me crazy that it's STILL not available for VZ.:mad:

I agree with you. My only point was to inform the people that are getting upset at Google for not selling them in stores, or giving them their NE2 and allowing them on family plans with a subsidized phone...all of which are speculation at this point. Things could change and make everyone happy.

Google's model is to change the way we all buy our cell phones. This is a fact of which they have spoken on the record and on video about. It may work it may not. Yes I'm referring to Google understanding that there are a lot of people that aren't particularly happy being stuck into a 2 year contract just to get a high end phone for cheap.

While they are not curing cancer...there were many people that said they weren't doing anything special with their search engine either...but here we are with most of the technological world using and relying on Google everyday for anything and everything. They are obviously doing something significant or there wouldn't be so many people upset in the fact they are changing what we are all use to and expect. It's all over this board...expectation of what we are use to...when Google expressly said they would not be doing the norm.

Well after the demand, or maybe people buying the T-mo version using it on AT&T HTC probably only had to change a frequency bam it works for AT&T 3g, reason it probably wasn't promoted. Plus you can only buy the phone outright for AT&T another reason it probably wasn't promoted.

I am unclear on what your point is. In your first paragraph you are informing people that......what? You also still haven't explained exactly what is so special about what they're doing with their phone. Yes, it's their phone, and they can do whatever they want with it. They happen to be selling it online only.....how is that a ground-breaking move on their part? How is that changing anything, and if it is, how is it changing things for the better?

You said you think Google is doing something big and you want to be a part of it. What are they doing? What do you want to be a part of? Again, all I see is a company wanting to have control over it's product. They want you to buy it from them directly. It's that simple. They don't seem to care about the huge loss of revenue they're undergoing by not selling in "brick and mortar" stores, so I ask you....you seem to know what their intentions are, so what are they?

Sorry Tater, if it seems I'm picking on you, but I'm just curious why you seem to be so loyal to this company. I have no problems with google as a search engine. They have nothing special going on, they just throw more money into the "search game" than anyone else. I also have no problems with gmail. I use it myself. I don't even have a real problem with how they're selling their phone. My only point here, is you seem to know something nobody else does, so what is it?

I may not be explaining myself very well. I agree with you on everything you're saying...so to me your comments and my comments mean about the same thing. I'm not necessarily saying this is something revolutionary that Google is doing...I'm just saying its unique. I enjoy being a part of something unique. And it's unique in that not every person is going to run out and buy an N1 sight unseen. In order to make a purchase like that you have to have a bit of faith in the company and manufacturer...after doing research of course. And I guess I take pride in that. Simple as that. And I agree that Google is just trying to take a bit of control of their product...which in turn if it works out for them, may give other companies a little faith to take that leap as well. There are a lot of phones that get butchered because the carrier doesn't like this or support that. Its just nice to see a product coming out the way a company indented.

No hard feelings Rew...it's the internet. :D

So I'm not sure if it's been said on this forum thing, but I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep about some billing issues and I asked them about the Nexus One and when it's supposed to come out. He said that according to their computers the Nexus One is not going to be offered at discounted price, and you have to buy it unlocked. I don't really know whether that's true or not, b/c that would be completely senseless.

Well that would be bad news! However, I'd take that with lots of grains of salt - one verizon rep told me a couple weeks ago he wasn't sure if they'd EVER get the N1, because they don't know much about it. I think they are kept more in the dark than we are! Just wait and see.

And if that's the case, and you don't mind a 2 year contract on Verizon, just pick the most popular phone on Verizon (Droid?), get that subsidized, and resell it, use the money to buy your N1, and BAM, Verizon just "subsidized" your N1 purchase.

I really hope that isn't the case...
