Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

Can someone point me in the direction of where there is an official word that the Nexus One is not coming out for Verizon. Either from Verizon or from Googe? Anyone? This does not make any sense to me at all.....Verizon is not carrying the phone it is only being supported on their networks.....The N1 has CDMA variant has passed thorugh the FCC. This does not at all fit Googles philosphy and business pratcices. I am still waiting for official word before I blow a gasket.........

Some shady tactics here from Google for sure, but you who were still holding out for the N1 (I gave up as soon as the Incredible became a sure thing) shouldn't be so disappointed. The N1 is rapidly becoming irrelevant, and the Incredible has better specs/features and appears to be a generally better phone. There's absolutely no reason for Verizon to sell the N1, and as many speculated, that became pretty obvious when the Incredible became official prior to the N1. Move on!

STOP THE RUMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got off the phone with Ed at VZW. He looked on their internal tool "InfoManager" and he said "To our customers, the Nexus One is coming soon to the our network" He had no news of any kind that it had been cancelled and said that rumors are flying all over the internet but that this is coming out of their internal Verizon system... Told me not to worry that it should be coming out very soon.....

Chuck, are you freakin serious? Geezus man you never are going to give up.

I guess I gotta hand it to you.

Oh and who the hell is "Ed"?

From Googles site: The currently available Nexus One is a GSM device and is not compatible with CDMA networks such as Verizon and Sprint. We are working hard to provide Nexus One phones optimized for the Verizon network - please stay tuned.

Even on the phone page it does not say anything about it not coming out, just says to get the Incredible.......

They are not going to come right out and say it's not coming...however I think they said it loud and clear when they cleared the "Coming Spring 2010" from next to the VZW option. Like I said in a previous post. Google is not going to burn any bridges for future updates...so they will leave them on there for the time being and for a slight explanation to completely confused customers.

Chuck, seriously man.
They changed the verbage to no longer say "available Spring 2010".
The removed the "greyed out" check box.
They are pointing you towards using the Incredible now, since like Tater said, they put the cart before the horse.

In my book that means it's not going to happen.

I too was about Google's sales model...it's out the window. Not completely but it's definitely been opened up a bit...Vodafone is selling them in their stores.

Verizon will not support a phone on their network they do not approve of. They will not activate it even if you get a retail CDMA...this version seems now will be Sprint's.

Their phone page says as much and they posted this blog post.

No where does it state that the N1 has been cancelled for Verizon's network..... Just says if you have been waiting, and before that the message said if you can't wait.....buy the DROID.

All I am saying is how me a solid statement from a reliable source......

yeah - I'm starting to side with Chuck on this - the Incredible is a better phone than the Droid - so it makes sense that Google would suggest you get the Incredible on Verizon if you can't wait instead of the Droid...

although the verbiage used on the Google site is cryptic at best

Please know the facts, as of 2008 Verizon has opened their network and as long as the phone works on the network they will allow it.

More news about Verizon's Open Network....

That is why this does not make sense.....

All google has to do is make a CDMA device and it will work on Verizons network...

I don't quite follow, but okay.

I think what others are getting at is that VZW tech support or anyone you contact at VZW are either stupid (and make stuff up) or really know the answer and are not at liberty to discuss it (and make stuff up).

If you had a Droid back in March and you asked ANYONE at VZW about the 2.1 update, you'd get a different response from every......single......person.

Some said it was already out, some said it doesn't exist, some didn't even know what it was.

So the people you call at VZW are un-reliable. Sorry

I stand corrected. However it says..."So any device (including applications) tested and certified in VZW's new $20 Million test lab is fair game for use on their wireless network." Obviously Verizon has tested but hasn't certified this phone.

If this is the case...then just buy the retail CDMA version when they release it for Sprint and you should be good. But like I said it still needs to be tested and certified in the Verizon lab...and obviously it wasn't or the would be doing a Verizon version. Or maybe they will allow it activated but didn't want to sell it with a plan, since the Incredible seems to have less issues as far as the known issues with the N1. Gizmodo has a confirmation from Google saying they will not be selling it through Verizon.
