Confused About Buying The X.

So I found a "Premuim Retailer" that has one Droid X in stock & saved it for me. The guy says he makes his own prices & instead of 299$ (With Mail-In-Rebate) I would only pay 220$ (With Mail-In-Rebate). So it would turn out to be 120$ once my rebate comes in the mail. It seems kinda fishy to me that would be 120$ for the price. :/ I only want this because I would not have to wait for 2 weeks to get a Droid X.

I just texted him & he said "You would pay 220$ including taxes. Then you can apply the 100$ rebate & it will be like you payed 120 for the phone." I feel kinda weird because I don't want to get frauded, but this is a Verizon Premuim Retailer. Any advice on if you guys think this is a legit deal or should I walk away from it now?

He also said "I sell T-Mobile BlackBerrys & just give them away for free" (IDK If that has to do with anything).

Devices are just a way to get people into contracts. They want to sell the contracts. What are the contract terms offered? I went direct through VZW for this very reason. Could have gotten the phone much cheaper, but be locked into a BS contract for 6+ MONTHS.

Well I don't mind have a 2 year contract renewal. I just want to know if that is a too good to be true deal.

Sounds to me like the rep is just doing whatever he/she can to sell you the phone. If I were you, I'd do my research on that retailer before buying. There might be another catch besides a contract extension.

I'll talk to the guy & see whats up. Thats kinda crazy for a Droid X, but hey; who doesn't want to save money?

Definitely read up on your contract before you sign it. He might add extra things, costs, or various 'fees' in there.

Yeah...it's not like the DX is hurting for sales right now, so it triggers my BS alarm too. At the least find out more info, and be careful.

Well if the guy does "spike" my contract with extra charges, can't I just take it up with Verizon if I don't want them?

because you said it seems fishy.. it seems fishy to me as well.
why / how do you have his phone number and are texting him? that seems odd to txt a stranger?
How is it this guy has the ability to "set his own prices"
what's in it for him? why is he helping you get such a good deal?
I'd answer those questions before I'd fork over my money.
But that's just me. I'm kind of anal and paranoid.. if your up for taking the risk then by all means txt him and tell him you'll take it.

Anal? xD

I found his post on Craigslist; "1 Droid X Left! Text John Doe @ 12345678 for details." He told me the price is 199$, then 220$ overall including CA Taxes. So that is how I texted him, & no I do not find it odd that I texted a stranger lol. & I asked the guy if it was Instant Rebate, but he was like no it is MIR, but you still pay 220$. ? So confused. :(

You failed to mention in the op that you found this on craigslist... Sounds real sketch to me. Perhaps you could go to his "store" to meet him and test the phone...

Also might not be a bad idea to call a known verizon "premium" store and ask them if they have the ability to set their own prices.

If he's legit he'll have no problem meeting you at the store and letting you test out the phone...I'd be surprised if he has a store, ps

I own a Verizon Premium Store. I'll sell you a Droid X for $210 including tax. With a $100 MIR, you'll end up paying $110 for the phone. In my Verizon Premium Store I also sell Sprint phones. I'll sell you an EVO for $100 dollars, nobody wants those.

I'm also an African Prince. If you send me $1000 dollars, I'll send you a check next month for $100,000.

Damn, that's the funniest sh!t I have read in a while! Anyways, to the op, come on dude. Your asking for advice on something that everyone including yourself thinks is a fishy deal. This is either a once in a lifetime deal and you just got EXTREMELY lucky, or its too good to be true. Be patient and order it from verizon. I ordered mine on the 22nd of July and had it by the 29th. They are shipping them even faster now from what I hear.

Well if it's a Verizon Premium store I wouldn't be too worried. I bought my X at Go Wireless which is another 3rd party retailer and don't have anything bad to say about them.

The rep posted it on craigslist to attract people to his store. Lots of people do that. Nothing wrong with it.

Yo. I have a LG Voyager at the moment, had to sell my BlackBerry Tour for cash towards an X. I just want a phone now, from the store like other people did.. Is that too hard to ask?

Yo. Then quit cryin and go do it then. You asked for advice, you got it. Now go make up your mind. This thread is dead imo.

Take it easy.

OP, the general consensus is that it sounds a little fishy. If you read through your contract (like was suggested) and everything seems fine, and you feel comfortable with it, then go right ahead.

Personally, I'd ask the guy how he's able to sell it for so cheap. Who knows, maybe he'll be straight up with you and have a valid reason. I'd also do a little more research into his business and maybe even check Google and see what you find about this "Premium Retailer".

For example, after a quick Google search of "VZW Premium Retailer", I found this on the first page VERIZON WIRELESS So-Called Premium Retailers Pretend to be "real" Verizon stores Bellevue Washington. I wouldn't read through it all unless you really feel like it since it seems to be a stupid argument back and forth but in the first report it does mention additional fees in the fine print.
