Connecting Chromecast to an A/V receiver

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a chromecast and have a 609 also. Can you let me know how you have it set up/connected please.

Just wanted to post an observation I have had recently. A few weeks ago I bought a new tv. A Samsung 55" UHD TV.

My expectation was that fairly new smart TV's would pass DD+ to the AVR when recieved and connected to the recurve with ARC over HDMI. The truth is a bit different. The tv is said to be able to decode it. But only outputs Dolby Digital or DTS to the receiver. It is hard set in the audio settings. Considering that there is a requirement for DD+ decoders to be able to convert down to DD5.1 that is very reasonable.

Just sucks it is one more thing possibly preventing a better experience.

With this being the case I would urge any one concerned about losing DD+ to go straight to there AVR.

Hey there, I have a que4stion about the Chromecast. How do I get it to work through my receiver?
I want to be able to watch a movie using my stereo speakers hooked up to my receiver.
Currently, one HDMI cord goes from my tv to my receiver that allows me to watch tv through my stereo speakers, I am just unsure how to get that same thing working with the CC. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Really need more info.

It kind of sounds like you use your receiver to get audio from the tv. Does your AVR have more HDMI ports? Generally the setup would be the CC would plug into the AVR into a HDMI port then the AVR would go back to the TV over a monitor connection (another HDMI on most new AVR's).

If you receiver is older or you don't have HDMI ports on it some TV's can pass the audio back over SP_DIF connections. In that case just plug the CC into a open port on the TV change to that source and then use you receiver as you normally do to watch TV.

I just bought a Bose Lifestyle 525 series 2, in past i just had my Chromecast to HDMI in back of tv. Now with the Bose setup, it only shows video bu no sound, which makes sense i guess. If i connect the Chromecast to an HDMI port on the back of Bose, how would i set this up? do i need to add a device to the Bose on screen setup like I did for the cable box and the blueray? I guess I can call BOSE tonight, but just wondering if anyone knew before i call..

FIGURED IT OUT... CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO BOSE RECEIVER, ALL IS GOOD

If you want to plug it into your receiver, make sure your receiver is capable passing video through to your television. You need to connect HDMI out from the receiver to an HDMI input on the television. Set the receiver and television to the proper inputs and you should be good to go.

Quick question for anyone that has an older television with no HDMI inputs connected to a receiver that has HDMI inputs. Does chromecast need to pass a video signal on to a television in order to work at all (Chromecast into receiver, receiver HDMI out to television)? I was hoping to plug it into my receiver and use it only for music. The receiver isn't anything special; it was my starter receiver before I got a proper one for my home theater. It looks like chromecast won't work at all without also passing through a video signal, meaning I need a new television. I thought I would check before I ran out and got one.

I have a newer denon AVR-1312. I plugged my chromecast into the old DVD port, to make sure it was a good connection. Im streaming netflix tv shows from my computer and only audio is coming out. I have it on the DVD setting. Would i have to change the video settings on my receiver? i have no idea.

Hi there,

Please can you tell me whether I am able to output sound from my Chromecast though my (rather old) home cinema system - from what I have read/watched online I don't think I am.

I have a Samsung HT-Z310 home cinema system and a JVC 40" LED TV LT-40DG52J.

I have 2 x HDMI in on my TV and 1 x HDMI out on my home cinema player. However I have no optical out on my TV and no HDMI in on my home cinema player.

FYI I also run a satellite receiver (Sky HD) to the TV via HDMI and to the home cinema via optical cable.

Many thanks in advance,
Daniel

I figured this out by accident after reading the previous posts. I could only get audio and video through the tv. If you haven't done so already...Set up ur chromecast 1st thro your tv as per chromecast instructions. Afterwards...Unplug the power from the chromecast dongle. Then plug ur Chromecast dongle into the back of you av receiver hdmi port. I chose the dvd hdmi slot. The light on the chrome cast dongle should now be red. Plug the power supply back into the chrome cast again. The chromecast light should then turn white/blue again. Make sure u select the input on ur receiver to dvd and use ur tv remote to scroll through the inputs on your tv til u see chromecast setting up on ur tv. Mine is hdmi 2. Once chromecast finishes setup ur good to go. Got great pic and hdmi sound through the receiver.

Input on tv: HDMI2
Input on receiver: DVD and signal select: H (for HDMI)

Hope this helps

I know there is a solution for you you could connect chromecast to any speaker at home ( Aux in , line in or RCA ) , it's on kickstarter ,try search " JoyDrone - Music Adapter for Chromecast "

Anyone having issues with sound on their Chromecast plug into their receiver. I plugged the Chromecast into one of the HDMI ports (port was labelled media center) on my receiver and I get picture, but no sound.

Hi
Did you get a answer to your problem?
I have the same problem with my Onkio and CC2.

Thank you for the valuable advice, I too am about to buy another Chrome Cast, after being thoroughly impressed with the device, i want to create a "Cast Group" by connecting my Smart TV with the 5.1 surround on room one to another ChromeCast in my PC room, a kind of 10.2 surround fest like Sonos but at a fraction of the price, i have a SW APP / Utility on PC, that should work through DNLA, but it does not work well.

Appreciated and a nice forum too, I also managed to get my (older Pioneer VSX 922) working properly via HDMI, for reasons only known to me, i ran it previously through an optical cable and used SPDIF, now when I play a True Surround movie through HDMI, I think "Ugh Why". True DTS is almost unparalleled in comparison.

I had an app that actually attempted to convert stereo into surround but I had mixed results, Sony Vegas, you could remix and pan by using a joystick.

Best for now,

I'm going the wireless route with bluetooth edifier spinaker speakers that i use from my iPad. I have a view sonic PJD5134 projector with HDMI that i've plugged my chromecast in to steam netflix etc from my iPad. All of that works great. What isn't working is the sound part. I can't stop the sound from playing through the small internal projector speakers rather than through the bluetooth ones. The audio setting for the projector are very limited and don't mention anything about audio source. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
