Considering ditching home broadband for LTE

I'm considering taking advantage of Verizon's $50 for 10GB of LTE data and dropping my $60 a month home broadband. As it is I use my phone the majority of the time for Internet access. Has anyone considered doing this?

How much bandwidth does watching an episode on the Hulu Plus app use? My phone doesn't have a Hulu app yet, so I'm curious what other phones use. Is 10GB going to be enough data?

We use 100-150GB per month on our home internet. Quite a bit of streaming netflix, xbox live.

I probably only watch 10 episodes on Hulu a week. I'm not a big gamer so I can give up Xbox Live. I don't think I'm a huge data user.

Your home internet provider may have a page that shows you your bandwidth usage also. Mine does.

After some decision I don't think I'm going to make the switch. I do ocassionally game online via game consoles and I won't be able to do that without a tethering plan. Plus it's probably going to cost money to rejoin my home ISP if the plan fails. The speed is there with LTE though.

10 gb is pithy for home use, especially in light of streaming video services like Hulu.

I watch 30 min per day of Netflix on my phone at dinner break. I am half way through my current billing period and have already racked up 9 gb data for my phone.

It doesn't look like the LTE monthly charge is much lower than your broadband monthly charge. Besides, with the recent LTE outages and variable speeds, I think that cable modem is the best option for home use.

I travel 4 days out of the week and use LTE for my sole internet source (when it works). Speed is ample for streaming movies and tv (using a Vulkano Player) and for downloading and uploading large files to my work VPN. I use about 70-80GB a month - I move large files on the grandfathered unlimited MHS plan.

80GB of LTE data a month? Are you on Verizon? What's a MHS plan?

I was able to get unlimited data and tethering for $60 so I'm going to try using that as a cable replacement for a while. I'll be saving about $30 a month. If it doesn't work out then I'll just resubscribe to my home internet.
