considering returning permanently.

There appears to be 4 common issues being reported with the new n7: quirky multi touch, GPS lock, random reboots, and some with distortion at lower volumes. I had to return mine 3x and there are enough people having problems that it's made tech news.

Another factor in my decision is that if I were a gambler, the odds of a launch with these issues out the gate could mean a mail in RMA to Asus at some point under warranty, whereas through Apple an RMA would consist of me getting in my car and having the clerk just grab me a new replacement off the shelf behind him and saying have a nice day

I just don't feel Android has hit the same level as Apple in tablets yet.
Sir Android Tablets will NEVER hit the level of the iPad.. That's a fact. Apple's biggest mistake was the iPad 3 they released a Retina Display without upgrading other components in the device.. And they have since learned their lesson.. I am sure the Retina Mini will have the right balance of Power, Weight and Batterylife that will Guarantee it to be a Smash Success.. And if you can wait.. it will be worth it.. And you can purchase with the satisfaction of knowing like you said "Any issues just walk it into your nearest Applestore for a replacement". But you won't need to.. The real beauty of Apple ( And yes.. I own an iPad Mini ) is that they control BOTH the Hardware and the Software.. It just makes for a more Stable Platform than the Fragmented Android way of doing things..
I turned in my Nexus-7 about a week ago on the 15th day of ownership ( Walmart ) and I could not have been happier to do so. I took a few days to figure out what I wanted to do because there are things I like about Both Apple & Android and I'm lucky enough to be able to have each eco-system in my home.. I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 to Match the 8 inch screen of my iPad Mini and I could not be happier.. it's the Perfect Screen Size for a Tablet..
I will continue to monitor this massive increase of issues with the Nexus-7 because Quite Frankly.. it's Fascinating.
My advice? if you still have time, Return it.. while you still can.

I LOL'd. A guy who owns a Samsung touchwiz device extolling the virtues of Apple. Not that the Tab 3 is bad, and 8" is a bigger size and more perfect for some, but TouchWiz is vomit worthy. I'm sorry but Apple doesn't just work out of the gate and example after example has been put forth here. Not many products with issues to start end up with RMAs to the manufacturer, but of course there are exceptions. The transformer prime is an example of stuff broken that just never was remedied. But then again, iPhone 4 antenna gate anyone?

Everybody has to make a decision for themselves because no tablet is perfect, not even the almighty iPad. It just depends what you want and what tradeoffs you are willing to put up with. Apple may have less hardware tradeoffs with the ipad, but they make up for it with tsuch tight control of the software, and frankly, what draws some people to Android IS the software and all that we can do with that we just can't on iOS. It will be interesting to see iOS 7 in action and how background data transfer will work out, how quickly devs will implement it, etc because honestly, I love my iPad and I love this N7 for different reasons, but my iPad being WiFi only makes for issues when I find myself without data and my app data is stale and can't refresh (think on a plane so no tethering either) or when I'm trying to keep an app like evernote in sync across android and iOS.

Its just not so cut and dry buddy.

just to clear things up, I have updated my views in a post a few above this one. I will update the OP as well.

Android ftw but I still want an apple product though, so I'm waiting for the newer ipad and mini. But my only gripe with android is that the apps can get laggy ever so often but its a minor trade off for the freedom it offers. Has any one noticed how beautiful the nexus 4 looks in its bumper, just wow.

BTW Raiderwill is selling his ipad mini on swappa.

Well OP..
It's for certain "Your Hard Earned Money" NOT MINE... So, I wish you luck.
But,
Anytime you have to go through "3" of something and you are praying that this one does not goof up in some way... IMO.. THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES to the quality of the product. Just like the Gen-One Nexus-7, Gen-Two is NOT off to a good start.

I am 100% Smiles with my iPad Mini & Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.. and 110% Smiles that I returned my Nexus-7 2013 to reach this point.
May you feel as I feel in the coming days as your return window closes.....

Hey tg!
Thanks for the advertisement!
Like you... I am prepping for the 2nd-Gen iPad Mini as well my friend.. :-)

My list of reasons is now updated in the OP and answers that for you. 3rd was a charm, and even if the next gen mini out specs this tablet, that won't be enough to outweigh the reasons listed there.

People actually get this twisted, Apple is not all about specs but consistency. Optimization is key here because what is the point of high end specs when developers are not taking full advantage of it? Look at adreno vs tegra, while the former or latter may be faster with each generation only one to date (tegra) is showing graphics to it's fullest in games right now. This is not even about adreno being slower but because developers take the time out to make sure its beautiful.

JSS15J update appears to have been pulled.

JSS15Q update going out now appears to alleviate multi-touch issues.

I agree, what I meant was that specs aside, I prefer android per the points listed in the linked article in the OP

I went through four iphone5 in as many months. No manufacturer is perfect.

I have both a nexus 7 and iPad mini. I think the iPad is a better tablet. N7 screen is just a little too small. My kids love it though.

First one had the poltergeist touch screen out of the box. The replacement lasted a couple months before then touch screen stopped responding. Third one developed a spot on the camera lens. Fourth one my wife has had for a while now. So far so good.

Have you noticed if chrome is jumping around when scrolling? Seems like mine regularly darts up and down.

Not from scrolling but a little jerkiness happened occasionally when just touching the screen on certain websites but not since the update google rolled out yesterday, but I'm keeping an eye on it. To be honest, I've run into browsers jumping around occasionally on every touch screen device I've owned though.

What do you mean by "darts up and down"? Also, do any of the sites where you experience this behavior have ads or Flash?

I mostly notice it on these forums and I think imore as well.

Anyway, I still haven't received this update, which is irritating me.

Same here, AC was the only website I noticed it on as well. For me it always happens when I'm either trying to click the little arrows in the "Last Post By" column, or scrolling the main forums menu. Doesn't happen inside of posts though. Mobile touchscreen browsers are weird that way, they like to do janky things on certain websites.

Is doing that play services workaround going to much up my device. I kinda wanted to just wait it out until I get it the old fashioned way, but it's taking forever.

Patience young padewan! It just rolled out a few days ago. It's summer, go out, drink cold beer on the patio and watch the pretty girls go by :)
