Android Central Question

I tried to change my fingerprint secured phone to a password secured one ... but after I managed to disable the fingerprint lockscreen ... while introducing the new password something went wrong, horribly.

I get the "Confirm password" screen (which would be normal once after entering a new password) ALL THE TIME i touch a setting that has anything to do with Lock screen/encryption.

Additional info:
- currently I am completely unable to secure my phone (I'm only able to use "swipe" for "unlocking")
- I can't decrypt my sd card if I can't get rid of that "stucked" confirmation

Any ideas (without hardreset - because I would like to acces my data on the SD card)

I did try to restart it, several times. (I forgot to mention in the original post that it's a Galaxy S5+). I'll try the other two options right now (with a little bit of googling)

Unfortunately none of that worked, tried: many reboots, cache partition wipe, safe mode.
If I look at my "Lock screen" settings ... at the "Screen lock" still says "Secured with password" - even tho' I'm opening my phone with a swipe, and opening that option pops up the well known "Confirm password" screen.

'I get the "Confirm password" screen (which would be normal once after entering a new password) ALL THE TIME i touch a setting that has anything to do with Lock screen/encryption.'

This is normal when changing your security settings.
You should be able to add pattern to your unlock setting.

@ctathiker It's normal once per change AFTER changing the password. I get the "Confirm password" BEFORE changing anything all the time, my phone has NO password currently.
@belodion - I see no suggestion by @ctathiker
I see a "Find My Device" entry that I can activate or deactivate in the "Device administrator" menu, not sure what should I do with it.
Not sure what should I look for in the "Security" menu. Again: if I try to set Swipe/Pattern/PIN/Password the "Confirm password" immediately pops up, BEFORE entering any sort of password/patter.

@Galactic Zoo I did have a password while I was having fingerprint lock, which I managed to deactivate (theoretically) with success, I was asked for my safety password and I typed in correctly. I did try to type that password in the new "Confirm password" screen too (as well as all other passwords that somehow might be relevant ... , without success: "Sry, try again"

I think your best option is to fully back up your device and unencrypted SD card. I use Smart Switch on my PC. This will back up all apps contacts etc. It does not back up all app data so I use Helium for filling in the gaps. Once done reset the phone set up security and restore your data
