Contacts disaster. Where to go from here.

I have a contact problem on Hero and I need some advice. I had to exchange my original Hero at the sprint store due to the amount of dust under the screen. I installed the Pro version for My backup and backed up all my contacts. Get new phone and the salesman was nice enough to transfer over all my contacts, great. Now I set up my gmail account and now I have all double contacts in gmail. I decided to delete all my contacts from gmail and the phone, restore from My Backup and then resync my contacts back into gmail. Dosen't work, I get about between 50-100 contacts back into gmail and I get sync errors like crazy.

Step 2: lets install Sync manager from HTC and sync all backed up contacts from the Hero, export as csv and then import back into gmail. Sync manager won't sync contacts in the Hero that are from google, just phone.

Would have been easier to just go into Google contacts and merge the duplicate contacts. There's really no need to back up contacts if you're using Google, sure hope you didn't pay for that app.

Your correct it would have been easier. Sprint pulled contacts from my old Hero and transferred them to the new Hero. Once I setup my gmail account on the new Hero all my contacts were doubled. I then tried to restore from the backup, yes I did have to pay for it and it worked great, but syncing contacts back to gmail from the Hero doesn't work to well. I got all my contacts synced on the Hero and gmail except I lost all my contact pictures.
