What is Google Thinking!!!
How does Google expect to compete against OS’s like Blackberry or Apple when the contacts list only sorts by first/last name or last/first name but not a "File As" field such as you find in Outlook. Did it occur to google that some people have many Customers (i.e. Companies) in their DB??
THERE ARE TWO MAJOR ISSUES WITH HOW IT HANDLES “COMPANY” CONTACTS:
1) DB records that contain both a “Company” name and a “Contact” name only display the Contact name. So if they are sorted into a group (i.e. Customers) you do not see the Company name listed. This requires a manual lookup as well as a memory for the company name (and spelling). Those of us dealing with customers look them up by Company not by Contact name.
2) Now, here’s the strange behavior…
You have Company “Adobe” entered with a Contact name of John Smith. It get’s displayed under John Smith – which is bad enough. Most people expect to see Companies listed alphabetically by “Company Name” not “Contact Name”. HOWEVER, if you happen to do a search on John Smith’s it can’t find it, yet that’s the name displayed. So under Groups I see John Smith (when I should see Adobe), but I try to search on John Smith and it turns up nothing. Now that makes a whole lot of sense! What’s the point of Groups if I always have to do a manual search????? Where is the logic in this!!!
People who enter Companies/Clients in their DB do not typically look them up by their contact name. There should be an option that allows listing as “File As” or at least – if there is a Company name to list by Company – clearly a logical option for anyone using the phone for work. And a search should be capable of finding either the contact name or the company name. Fundamentally, this is a great OS, but there are some serious fundamentals missing. If Google wants to maximize their market share they should target more than just the casual user. As an x-programmer, I doubt this would be rocket science.
