Contacts problem, multiple of same person shown..

I just restored my phone and I'm gonna root it again.

Anyways, when I restored my contacts it has multiples of the same person. It has the same name and number for the person listed.

I think it has something to do with google sync. I should only have like 80 something contacts. I go to people, click on menu > view

It shows this

only contacts with phone number

Google (200) Checked
show auto Gmail contacts unchecked
phone (0) unchecked

So I think somehow my google account thinks I have 200 contacts? Somehow it has some people listed multiple times.

Is there anyway I can fix this. I think its something to do with google. Is there a way I can edit what contacts are synced with my google account?

Ok so I messed around with contact editing and the contacts are linked to eachother. Why would they link to the same one and why do more then one even exist?

i would go online and check your gmail contacts. use the FIND DUPLICATES feature if you need to.

Ok figured it out. Now I want to know why when I go to edit some contacts it will have their mobile number there like 10 times?

The people/contacts definitely needs to be a little more streamlined. I like the linking function, but I have no idea what some of my contacts is associated with or how many duplicates there are.
