I got my bionic 2 nights ago and Im loving it so far. I have a problem with contacts. When I got they phone, they transfered contacts from my old one. They all came in as "preset" verizon wireless contacts and I cant edit them because they are pre-set? I was able to hide one, but now I cant figure out how to unhide it. I need that one back! It wont even let me delete any of the "preset" contacts. I need to get rid of them. Any thoughts?

Hm not sure what they did there.. I loaded all my old contacts using vz backup assistant.. just plugged in my info and within a min or so all my contacts from my old phone were on the bionic. Not as "preset" but as "Backup Assistant Contact". Can edit/delete or whatever to them as I want. Might want to just ask at the store if its not a hassle for you to try and figure out what they did and how to undo it properly.

EDIT: If you know for sure your old phone had the backup assistant and all your stuff was backed up (you can check online in my verizon, look around and you should be able to find a spot for the backup assistant that will list all the contacts backed up in there), then I'd say you can probably just wipe/reset the bionic, and reload contacts using that program.

Yeah, I dont know. I got it at BB and they hooked it up to a machine to transfer. I came from a non smart phone, so have never used the backup assistant or anything (yet). I might be screwed on this. All my google stuff came into the phone fine and I can edit those without any problem? Still cant figure out how to unhide the one contact either! I should not have let them so the transfer from the old phone:(

Hmmm well if you are sure you didn't have backup assistant on the old phone then letting them transfer might have been your only option. But you should still probably go back and see if they can fix the problem. You can also replace the contact you lost by just creating a new entry (just fish the number out of your old phone, assuming you still have it), but yeah not being able to edit all those contacts they transferred could become a nuisance so maybe you should check if they can change what they did for you.

I think Ill call them and see what they can do. I tried reentering that one I hid, but no luck. Id have to put it under a different name because it still dosent show up. I have all my old contacts on a micro SD card. They are vcf files. I wonder if I can somehow get them on to the verizon backup assistant site from my PC, then wipe my phone and sync it?

Yeah I don't know but I don't think you can do that. Just call them up or go to the store where they did it and they'll hopefully be able to help.

Ill call them up, but its a long dirve. I did find out that I can import those vcf files into my google account real easy, so I can get them to the phone. I just need to figure out how to get rid of the preset ones. I really dont want to do a reset because of all the other stuff Ive done. Maybe they can tell me an easy fix over the phone.

I have a Contact question - Is there anyway to add a Birthday or Anniversary to a Contact??? This is basic info, but I can't see where to add it? Also, my contacts were on a BB and on the Backup Assistant. When they gave me my Bionic, they were all there and the ones I had put a birthday in, had the bd listed, but it is uneditable?

Ah I also had a blackberry and this was a cool feature - if a contact had a birthday bb calendar would automatically remind you. Doesn't work the same way on Android unfortunately. If a google contact has a birthday in it, it will populate, but can't edit. I've looking for an app that will help with this - I just downloaded EboBirthday but haven't tried it out yet.

I don't use Google Contacts...I have everything in MS Outlook, but I don't sync anything. I just find it hard to believe that if you want to manually add a contact, there is no option for birthdays or anniversaries...seems like a basic feature/need.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Bionic, but I am a little disappointed in the features of the Android O/S. BB O/S5 my be outdated, but I sure miss some of the features of it!

The VZW rep who sold me my Bionic tried to transfer the contacts for me as well. I told him there was no need and to hand over the phone! LOL I use Google Contacts, so they sync'ed automatically for me.

You can add custom fields within Google Contacts via a web browser. (I don't think you can do it on your phone, but after you've added the custom field, you will see it on your phone).

I just went ahead and did a hard reset to clear the phone. I then imported each vcf file into my gmail contacts individually, then they all synced up fine after the reset. Took me forever! Thats the last time Ill let them transfer contacts with a machine. What good are contacts if you cant edit them! Oh well, at least I only had the phone for a little over a day. It was no big deal to reinstall the apps and Im now a happy camper! I can now edit my contacts.

Thanks for the info. I still think that should be part of the contacts themselves.
