Hello everyone,

I just got my MyTouch 4G yesterday and I'm wondering about a few things. I've owned a Blackberry (BB) phone for the last 5 years and so I am used to connecting my BB to my macbook using Desktop Manager (DM) to update my applications, calendar, music and other things.

Do MyTouch users have a similar program in which they need to update software on their phone?

Also, is my MyTouch 4G compatible with macbooks?

Any information that you can direct me to in order to make my phone work to its best potential will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Software updates are normally over the air. For apps they update through market. You don't need to connect to your mac to update. If you use google calendar and gmail, that stuff is store in the cloud so no need to plug your MT4G to pc to sync or anything like that.

Welcome to the Dark Side. The force is strong with us. I am also a Blackberry convert, but i jumped over after the horrible failure RIM calls the 9700 was released into the wild.

android do most of their syncing OTA. You're calendar both Exchange and Google will sync though the clouds. Apps are done directly via the market. depending on which music program you use... some will sync over the air, some require Wi-Fi to sync, or you can drop and drag with your computer.

As far as mac and androids playing well together, you'll have no problem. Infact most of Google's development engineers use Macs. If you are wanting to root, get into development, and hackery there are some extra steps Macs/Linux require but it shouldn't be a buzz kill.

THank you,

I also was using the 9700 until yesterday, but I actually liked the phone.

As far as "rooting" I'm not quite sure what that is and the advantages of doing that, but I suppose in time I'll know.

Thanks again and I look forward to finding lots of info in this forum.

If you have contacts that you want to bring to android you'll have to extract them from a backup from the BlackBerry desktop software and convert it to .csv format and then fill it out and import to your gmail account. once you log in to your gmail after first turning on your phone, your android will sync all your contacts from your google account to your phone. Same thing with Facebook. Assuming you have one, once you log on to Facebook you'll be promted to sync with existing contacts or sync all. Simply, what this does is finds all of your friends with numbers on Facebook and adds them to your contacts. Android is so nice with switching and updating. Almost everything, besides third-party apps, is backed up with google including wi-fi passwords and access points and settings. So if you update your ROM it will all re-sync with your updated phone. It's almost idiot proof. haha. And welcome to the Darkside :D
