Gorilla Glass 3 had been reported by dozens of websites (infact I am almost positive I saw it on LG's own site) after the launch of this phone.. now the phone clearly has Gorilla Glass 2.

Screen Protection is hardly ever mentioned in a launch of phone, hardly even mentioned in reviews.. but for people like me who don't use cases or screen protectors its a big deal.

How did so many websites get false information after the official launch ?

I'm pretty peeved about this realization because It was a major selling point to me, with options like the HTC One and other phones available every selling point matters.

Thought that I've read that Gorilla 3 is more prone to breakage than 2. As I say, I don't know if that's true, but I think I've read that somewhere. Either way I don't think it's a big deal. Certainly not important enough to make or break a decision IMO.

That's an interesting perspective. I thought Gorilla Glass' (GG) only reason for existence was to be tougher and reduce the appearance of scratches more so than previous versions. The thing I question the most is how GG2 was chosen over GG3. The only thing I can come up with is that when the the glass for the phone was selected GG3 either wasn't available as an option or that LG paid significantly less to use GG2. Either way it doesn't sound too good to me.

GG3 is thinner than 2. I think that's its only improvement.

Thinner while being at least equally strong and scratch resistant I thought. I thought GG3 was supposed to be more scratch resistant and reduce the appearance of any scratches that do actually occur. I recall seeing a demo where that was stated.

Here's what Corning's website says @ http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/Gorilla-Glass:

Corning? Gorilla? Glass 3 with
Native Damage Resistance?

Corning is continually looking for ways to improve Gorilla Glass and achieve new levels of tough. Gorilla? Glass 3 is not only chemically strengthened ? its atomic configuration is formulated so that the glass is more durable. Corning? Gorilla? Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance? (NDR) is fundamentally tougher and more damage resistant even before chemical strengthening.

How tough? Gorilla? Glass 3 with NDR enables improved damage resistance and toughness compared to former glass compositions and is up to three times more damage resistant than Gorilla Glass 2. This type of Native Damage Resistance is a unique feature of Gorilla? Glass 3. Something Corning is able to provide due to a proprietary glass composition that is better able to resist the deep scratches that cause glass to break.
