Could my Samsung S5 audio port problems be a hardware or software issue?

Samsung S5 Audio Port Problems (Hardware or Software)

On Wednsday (Apr 29, 2015) I downloaded and installed the ATT Android 5 update for my phone. All was working normally audio was ok. On Friday, I went for my run, music was fine in my headset, and it also played back in my car perfectly. However I began noticing loud poping sounds when the phone switched tracks. I thought it wasn't a big deal and carried on. I went to go for a run Saturday and the audio coming out of the headset was pure crap, both channels forced out the center and very quiet.

I tested the headset on my computer and all was well. I played the sound back in my car, sounded ok. I factory reset the phone twice with no luck. The phone went back to default Android 5 not 4.4, and that didn't solve the problem. The ATT Tech thought that's how it's supposed to sound, which is bs in my book I've tested this on 5 different headsets, both with and without a microphone, and the audio's still crappy. The only time it sounds like it should (in beautiful stereo) is when It's plugged into the car, and that still gives me loud popping sounds when I change tracks or get a notification. I also made a phone call with the headset, the person could hear me, but I could barely hear them, and I had the phone's volume maxxed out.

I'm pretty convinced it's not the Lollipop's fault since everything is running normally. Any ideas?

That's a common "after updating to Lollipop" complaint on some devices.

A factory reset deletes all information you've entered (including apps, pictures, etc.) since the phone came out of the box - it doesn't reflash an older ROM.

Ok. What are your thoughts on the Headphone problem then?

I just tested it on my stereo and it's fine. But when I plug a headset in it's messed up. I also checked I have "Stereo to mono" off as well.

I'm hesitant to flash back to KitKat...and I'm also hesitant to get a new audio port. This is weird. I don't remember the phone receiving an update to cause this over night.

If anybody else has had this problem all help is appreciated.
