Cracked my HTC ONE screen!!!

Cracked the glass real bad last night and was wondering how do I go about getting it repaired? I tried me local cell phone repair shops and when I tell them which phone I say HTC ONE and they go htc one x or htc one s no HTC ONE! Like they never heard of this phone and this was two different places. Just looking for some info on where to send the phone.....number or website thanks.

You might want to look at iFixit. They do teardowns of a lot of electronic devices. I saw the One, and I think they said that due to the unibody construction, swapping the screen would be difficult without damaging other parts. You could always call HTC and see what they say.

As Golfdriver said the disassembling the one is extremely difficult because of the unibody and you will damaging it trying to disassemble the phone.

I would not suggest having it repaired by anyone other than HTC. They are going to be your best bet at repairing it.

I'm pretty positive that HTC didn't fix mine but sent me a replacement phone as the imei number changed and the damage to the ally body 2 deep scratches had magically gone.

Sent mine in last week for a screen replacement. Quote was for $180 but I
told them it dropped from about 12", which is the truth, and thought that it shouldn't
have cracked. They knocked 20% off so it was $144 total. Takes about 10 days BTW.
Getting it back today so hopefully it's all good to go.

I just called a local guy that works out of his house with excellent reviews. He told me that the parts are very expensive, the screen is maybe $200 or more, and he doesn't fix them. I was very surprised. I guess HTC would be your best bet. So sorry this has happened to you.
fyi, be careful of those local guys, I used one with excellent reviews and found he was putting those reviews on while he had our phone in his posession. Nice!

The better switch would have been away from AT&T's insurance. $199 deductible is insane.

Don't forget to add $168 plus tax you pay over the course of two years. As someone said, HTC charged $180 to fix, less than the deductible.

Depending on where u live tax can be ridiculous. Here in WA tax on your cell bill is 21.5%

I forgot to mention that I got mine on a trade (my Xperia ZL for the One). And, damn! I wish I would have bitched to HTC too. Haven't got mine back yet so perhaps I'll call them up and do the same and see if they can issue me a discount. I only dropped mine 6 inches. Thanks for the FYI bro.

Oh and I worked at Best Buy for the holiday in 2010 as a (seasonal) Mobile Sales Rep and I'm well aware of Geek Squad Black Tie Protection. Its definitely worth having if you bought your device from BB. There's also Square Trade but again, you have to have bought your phone from a retailer (have a receipt) or eBay. I traded for mine so I'm SOL as far as insurance plans, etc go.

No luck getting compassion from the HTC Support rep to issue a discount. Also, just found out mine is being held for more materials. Apparently they don't have what they need to repair it just yet. I'm trying to be patient. I'm using my little back up LG Escape (which i picked up cheap just for this very reason or, in case I sold my One or traded it via CTO online) in the interim. Besides, I already paid the $180 and considered it gone anyways.

This is promising - mine broke yesterday (fell off the couch onto hardwood floor - max 24") and the Bell rep told me he figured HTC would charge 'much more' than 200$, which is what I told him was my upper limit. Two local shops both said they won't touch the device (and I'm not sure I'd trust them to anyway), so I'll probably send it to HTC. I might try one or two more of the Bell stores though to see if they have any leniency since this was just a month old.

I had same issue on my daughter's phone. I Dont believe replacement screens are available.

They slowly just getting on the market but are now available at RepairsUniverse. Here is a HTC One LCD & Touch Screen Assembly we suggest even if do not need to replace the touch screen to use this complete screen assembly as seperating the glass digitizer from the LCD display is pretty much impossible without further damaging the LCD. Using this screen assembly makes the repair process much safer and a whole lot easier.

I spoke to another repair shop locally and they still don't have a firm price for repair but expects the parts early next week and they seem pretty confident about being able to repair it. The guy that started this shop used to be in hardware with Blackberry and they are supposed to be very reliable. They said they have several people waiting for repairs and I should call back next week. I'm a little apprehensive of getting a third party repair, but if it's going to be less than 180$ (which seems to be the average price people are being charged by HTC) then I'll probably go with them to avoid shipping/uncertainty/etc. I will report back next week with more info.

Got my phone back and the screen looks great!
However when they repaired the phone they broke the GPS! I now have to send it back AGAIN! If you do send it in for repair double check it when you get it back.

That's absolutely bizarre and frustrating. I just got mine back too and the display is fixed and looks perfect (and my GPS works).... I was paranoid about their handling of my device but it doesn't have a mark on it and everything looks as it should. My dumbass forgot to take out the SIM tray like they instructed me too so I have no SIM tray now and have to wait for one to be shipped to me via UPS ground. HTC wouldn't let me pay to expedite the shipping. So, I found one on eBay here in San Fran near where I live so at least it won't take long to get it. Ugh. I could kick myself. So I'll end up with two. Lol

and they just sent me a text the other day asking if I wanted to put insurance on it and I ignored it....DANG

Maybe your network cursed you for not taking out their ibaurance ?

I assume everyone else has also been charged $180? Did you have to pay anything extra for shipping or any other fees?

I'm probably sending mine off tomorrow (although via a Canada carrier), once I get a definitive quote from a local repair guy. I'm going in with the idea that unless they can do it locally for around 125$ (which isn't likely) then I'm going with HTC to keep my warranty/quality intact.

I got my HTC one from Costco. 182 out the door as opposed to 260ish art the att store. The Costco price also included a case an extra charger that works as a car charger. It also included a case for the accessories. Well Costco has its own deal with square trade. Cost me 99 bucks with a $25 deductible. Includes four replacements plus a fifth for battery if need be. So even if you used four replacements and the fourth had a battery issue they send another. They also overnight the replacement phone. Couldn't pass that one up. So for 282 which is twenty more than I would have paid from at&t I got the phone plus extra accessories and the replacement plan. Might I suggest an otter box case next time

I paid the $180 and the cost to ship it Priority with insurance was like $14. They pay to ship it back FedEx.

You know, I'd also like to point out that my device looks just as perfect as the day I got it. When I dropped mine - it had a case on it so there was no body damage done to it. Just the LCD/digitizer(?) cracked. I was worried about HTC's handling of my device and heard other horror stories from people who sent theirs in and had it come back with marks on the body, etc. I was impressed with HTC's handling of this whole process in general (except for the fact that I had to wait maybe a few days extra for parts to come in & the SIM tray confusion) The SIM tray issue I suppose is USER ERROR. LOL But, overall it was pretty quick and almost painless.

Just sent mine off for repair - I spoke again to the local repair guy and he hadn't received any parts yet but when I told him that it seemed like HTC was fixing them for around 180$ he said that I should go with that because he wasn't sure he'd be able to fix it for less anyway. It is a little scary though because three different Bell employees tried to tell me that it wasn't worth fixing and would 'certainly cost much more than 200$' and even tried to stick by that story after I told them that my research showed otherwise. I consider myself a hyper-informed person, so it's sad to think of how many people who are even slightly less obsessive then me are getting duped into dropping upwards of 500$ on a brand new phone because they are being convinced that you basically can't fix phones.
