Cracked screen? :(

Once its refunded you should be safe. Question, could you see the "crack" with the screen off? An actual track should be viewable with the screen off.

Yeah, it was there regardless of whether the screen was on or off, but it was incredibly hard to see. Even if you tilted the phone around to try to see it, you need exactly the right angle, and exactly the right lighting. So, I'm kinda hoping that, because it's so difficult to spot, maybe they'll miss it. I'm usually not that lucky, but I can hope... At the very least, I'd hope they'd determine that, if it is, indeed, a crack, that it wasn't my fault. But who knows? *sigh*

I don't think I'll be able to relax until I see if I get refunded, and I don't know how long that will take. I wonder if they'll alert me beforehand whether or not I'll get a refund?

Keep your head up. It may get dicey but it should work out in the end. If they do charge you, you can still plead your case to get it resolved. Good luck.

I believe that you have 30 days to put insurance on it. Do this first. Next try to get Verizon to replace it under warranty. If that does not work, fial a claim.

About how long should I wait before becoming concerned about whether or not I'm getting refunded? It appears they got my shipment early this afternoon, but I haven't been refunded yet. 'Course, I know New Year's weekend is here, but just curious about how long it would take for them to process and issue a refund.

Edit: Also, what exactly does the "14-day" return period constitute? What I mean is, does the merchandise actually have to be received by the retailer within those 14 days, or does it just have to be sent back within that 14 day period? Because I sent mine back yesterday, which would be day #14, and I made sure to overnight it so it would be there today; but will they deny it because it arrived on day #15? Although, when the girl I talked to yesterday said they would send me out a new one, she said I had five days to return the old one...

I just hate not knowing what's going on. :/ I hope they communicate to me some how as to what they're going to do... It'd be pretty terrible if they just never say anything to me, and I don't know if I'm getting refunded or not.

So I noticed the 2nd day had my Nexus that it had the same kind of crack starting on the top and curved to the right side of the screen. Same impossible to see and doesn't appear to do anything crack. I really don't want to go thought he hassel of re locking the bootloader and going down to the Verizon store. Really don't know what to do. My only worry is that it will end up weakening the screen so it will crack when i drop it easier or I just wake up one day and the screen has broken into a million pieces over night.....

Glass with minor manufacturing defects can crack or shatter later on without any external stress.

If/ when you talk to someone at Verizon about it, I'd recommend not calling it a "crack". That word is what seems to have made this situation the headache that it turned into. @_@

Hm... I'm concerned, now, because I see another charge from FedEx on my bank account, for just under the amount it cost to overnight my old phone back to Verizon... Does that mean they sent the old phone back to me for whatever reason, and I had to pay the shipping for that? If so, crap, now I'm going to have to figure out how to get the phone back to Verizon again on time. >_<

So, if that second charge from FedEx is, indeed, them sending my old phone back to me (I still don't know what it is at this point; I guess I'll find out later in the week...), what would you guys suggest I do? Call them again to find out why they sent that one back, and perhaps try again to send it back to Verizon via the box the new one is coming in? Or just hold on to it and try to sell it on eBay to recoup some of the lost money?

I would just hold on to it and sell it on eBay. That seems like your best bet if Verizon actually does send it back to you.

Nah, I never posted pics, as I don't think I would've been able to get a picture of it, anyway. Unless the lighting and angle were both just right, it was pretty much invisible. Plus, I already sent it back, anyway. If they did, indeed, send the old one back to me, I'll try to take some pics of it, if I can get the camera to pick up the crack.

I kinda wonder why they would ship it back to me, though. I mean, when I had sent it out, it was still under the 14-day return period, and I read a note on my receipt saying that Verizon can (and will) keep your returned equipment without refunding you if it's out of the return date (which I think is a total BS policy, but that's besides the point). So... why, exactly, would they send it back to me, then? Why not just keep it and not refund it to me?

If they send it back and you sell it on eBay, be sure to list it as a "minor screen defect" and not as a "crack." As long as you take pictures showing the area of the defect from multiple angles, a potential buyer will get a better idea of what they are bidding on.

you didnt call and give them RMA#

What's an RMA#? Anyway, I didn't think any of that mattered; I figured that once the girl I talked to told me to said in my old one, they'd be expecting my old one to come back within the next five days.

Edit: Also, how much do you guys think I'd get for it on eBay, even with a "screen defect"? Obviously, I don't expect to get back the full amount, but I also don't want to take TOO much of a loss, yanno? Although, I guess something is better than nothing, but still.

Not exactly the same situation, but I dropped my phone from about a one foot drop onto a wood floor. It was in a case, but the screen shattered. I called my insurance (Asurion) and they said the phones are on backorder because they are so new, so they won't receive them for another week. I'm pissed. I know it is my fault for dropping the phone, but to have it shatter this easily and now to have to wait (yet again) for the Galaxy Nexus is irritating and redundant. Hoping not to get stuck with a crappy refurbished model.

Its all just luck on how the phone hits the ground. That's true with any phone. I've almost thrown phones into the ground trying to catch them and have never broken a screen. Others break from a foot fall. Sometimes they hit just right

Got my new, crack-free Nexus a little while ago. Shockingly, I didn't receive the old one; I thought for sure the FedEx guy would have two boxes for me... With that second amount I got charged from FedEx, it seemed like it was being overnighted back to me, which should've been today. I'm... perplexed. o.O Still haven't been refunded for it, either.

I kinda wish there was a way to find out if, indeed, that second FedEx charge is due to them sending it back to me. I'd at least like to not have to constantly be watching for a FedEx truck all day. I suppose I'll give FedEx a call about it, maybe tomorrow. *shrug*
