"Crackling" Earpiece

I have also had alot of crackling when using the bluetooth headset, Voyager Pro. I did exchange my first handset with Best Buy hoping for a fix of this issue but it seems stronger than ever with my second handset.

Considering I make 100% of my calls over my bluetooth headset you can see where this could be a deal breaker for me.

Anyway, hopefully someone will find a fix and report back here.

I get a buzzing sound in the earpiece when the person on the other end speaks and the volume is set to max. Otherwise, the phone has been great since I got it on 7/3/10. Went the corporate store where i got it, and they expect to have a replacement for me tomorrow. That said, do I dare replace an otherwise good phone?

Swapped out the phone today, no buzz, and the front facing camera is now centered in the window.

Anybody know the policy on exchanging the phone after the 30 days? My earpiece is starting to do the same thing, and I'm noticing the light leakage quite a bit now. Bought my evo from Best Buy...30 day mark passed about 3 days ago :(

LOVE this phone, and I don't even care if the replacement is a new or refurbished, just want one without the problems. Am I going to have pay some money, or is this covered under the manufacturers warranty?

cheers and thanks

Should be covered under warranty. 30 days is just the no questions asked return timeframe. and has nothing to do with the warranty.

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere.. but I also had the earpiece crackling issue (plus the light leakage issue). Anyway, my replacement finally came in at Radio Shack. It's hardware revision 3 and it's perfect. No crackling, no light leakage.

Crackle-crackle

just bought my EVO sunday and I have the crackling sound, got it from a Sprint kiosk in the mall, should i try and return there or at a sprint store?
Thanks

I just got my replacement phone. I had the crackling sound. The techs looked at it and said they needed to replace it. I took the phone in on a Saturday and got the new phone on Monday. New phone is fine. Lost the crackling and light leaks.

Can try to return it. Also make sure you don't have the hearing aid option turned on. Because that caused mine to crackle and pop like crazy. Sound is great with that turned off.

If you are going to post this as a possible fix, Ir would be nice if you would post how to find this option on the phone. I personally could not find it hence the reply.

EDIT: Found it -- Menu, settings, call...

Earpiece buzz on high in-call volume settings

Hi guys. I originally purchased my Evo on 7/21/10 and I've had to exchange it multiple times since then due to various quality problems. My first Evo had a blown earpiece speaker along with glass separation issues. The power button on my second Evo was broken by a Sprint tech attempting to clean out dust in the camera lens cover. The third one I had a red stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen. The fourth one kept rebooting and it was obviously a refurbished model. Okay so now I'm on my fifth one. Needless to say I am very scared to exchange it as I've had nothing but bad luck. I know that the newer batch of phones have the newer Epson screens which are in my opinion inferior. My third phone had the Epson screen and it was noticeably inferior. So with my 5th Evo I am getting the oh so slight light leaks and the earpiece buzz on the highest two in-call volume settings. I have the nice Novatel screen (phone is hardware version 0003) and the light leaks (knock on wood) are very minor with no glass separation to report. I tested two other Evos, the display model at two different Sprint corporate stores, and both of them made the earpiece buzz calling the exact same phone number. So not counting my first phone with the blown earpiece speaker, that's 6 out of 6 phones I've tested that exhibit the same problem. I know that others have reported no buzz or vibration type noise with their phones even on the highest in-call volume setting. The actual speaker itself is fine as if I press the phone against my ear firmly the buzz stops since my ear is absorbing the vibration. So my question is what would you guys do or suggest at this point? Should I just turn the in-call volume down and live with it? Is there some type of repair or fix for this?

Yep, my phone did it too, while in during calls and on speaker phone. I took it to the local sprint tech center and they replaced my microphone. A week later it sounded like deal again, so I took it back and they replaced it again. So far so good and its been about 2 months. My father and I each picked our evos up on release date and he has had no such problem.

What is considered a blown earpiece speaker?

The thing is after 30 days I think Sprint only gives you a refurbished model and not a new phone. I have one more question. On my phone the earpiece volume is definitely nice and loud as I am able to hear clearly even when the in-call volume is set to half. I do get distortion (with some vibration) at max volume and occasionally at the second highest in-call volume setting for the louder call connections. Is this considered a blown speaker? I think I have become paranoid after reading all the various posts with people reporting problems. Is there anyone that does not get any distortion at max volume? As I said before I tested the demo EVOs at two different stores and they sounded like my phone when calling the same phone number. Thanks guys!

Mine just started cracling and continues to do so on the ear piece until I drop volume below 50%!

On my 4th Evo; Only this final one has that issue...but after what it took to get this one, I'll settle for it.

I confirmed mine only crackles during calls, not VMs. Can the earpiece itself be replaced vs a phone exchange?

I have the same problem with my htc sensation.
I think it is the static electricity from our hands touching the metallic battery case...
Try placing a random Skype call and during the call swipe the ring that protects the rear camera.. Mine started to crackle like crazy.
Then try to remove the battery case and place the same call. No crackles!
We should try a battery case from an non-crackling phone and see what we'll get..
Hope I shed any light..
