currently rooted...

If you are having problems, the best thing to do is to flash the Nandroid (backup) you made when you rooted. You will get a better response in the forum for your carrier and rooting method.

Please define what you mean by wipe everything but not mess up any files? A factory reset will wipe all apps, user data and settings you've made. This restores the phone to what it was when you took it out of the box. You will have to re-root after doing that.

I must've been sleeping the day they covered Factory Resets in the rooting class - I don't remember anything about having to re-root the phone after performing a Factory Reset. Guess I'll have to stop sitting in the back...

Wiping your data/cache (Factory Restoring) WILL NOT remove root access.

I'm going to give you the simplest method- Buy ROM Manager from the Play Store, use it to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery (the first option when you open the app), reboot into recovery, and using your volume buttons for scrolling/power button for 'enter' wipe your data, than wipe your cache, now go into advanced and wipe your dalvik cache. Back out and reboot your device. It will be the way it was out of the box but rooted.

Thanks appreciated.

No, he'd have to reroot if he flashed a stock image with Odin. Please research anything root related before giving out advice. Assumptions make an ass out of yada yada and such.

Anyway, OP could also try TWRP. That's popular with the kids these days. I just use CWM because I'm used to it and keep it old school ;)
