Custom Boot Animation from Droid X

Got my third truly epic Epic, and I'm willing to try this when I get back to where I was with my first Epic as long as it won't brick my phone!

Edit: I couldn't find an equivalent bootanimation.zip file on the Epic, so I guess this isn't happening.

Ah man, well thanks for the info! So far, the phone is running really well, but I'm not going to jinx myself, so I won't say anymore till everything is up and running again.

Wat happens if u happen to load a wrong file for the bootanimation or one not for your phone? I think I put on a flashable zip once and replaced it since but are there any real probs that could come of it?

It bricks your phone or if you're lucky, you get a REALLY screwed up boot animation that is probably mostly just a black screen.

Just pm Cory. He'll lead you in the right direction. As of now, I'm still not too familiar with the Epic's insides besides some of the stuff I saw in the system dump.

It appears that the Epic does not use the .zip file for it's splash screen bootup. If you look in /system/media, there are a bunch of .qmg files that appear to have something to do with the bootup animation.

On a separate note, be really careful when you're messing around with files. In an attempt to stop the bootup sound, I went in and renamed it to poweron.wav.old. Guess what? It wouldn't boot after I did that. It was probably hanging while trying to find it. Bricked with no way out. Lesson learned.

I noticed the same thing crawling through the system files. It appears the boot architecture is built in a different method then other devices (or hidden in another method). The shutdown animation is a folder full of .png files though. I guess if you were to rename a set of the spinning android .png files and replace the corresponding files from the shutdown folder you could have a custom power-off...
