Not responsible for anything you do to your phone. This is a basic hack but still proceed with caution.

Wanted to spice up my DX today so I mad my own custom boot animation. I used my avatar for the one I'm using but decided to do some alternates. Here are a couple along with an Android Central bootup.

GDboot.gif
ACboot-1.gif

Here is a youtube video of the bootup. Please forgive the crappy video. Will make a better one soon.

YouTube - Droid X custom boot animation

MUST BE ROOTED
The easiest way to install this is to use Root Explorer. Download the file and rename to bootanimation.zip. Copy the file and navigate to system/media. Change the permissions to R/W by clicking the button in the top right. Rename the existing bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak. Then paste the file in this directory. Change permission back to R/O. Reboot and enjoy the show.

Will be adding more colors soon. Put in your request.

Black DOWNLOAD

Red DOWNLOAD

Blue DOWNLOAD

Can I email u a file and have u modify it for the X? Also do these have sound added to it?

On the EVO 4G w/Froyo, the bootanimation.zip is found in /system/customize/resource

You will need to rename the existing bootanimation.zip that is in that folder and then replace with the downloaded one from OP above. Don't forget to rename the downloaded file to bootanimation.zip

Note that the audio file that is played during boot is located here also. It's called SPC_animation_final.mp3

If it annoys you, you can rename it and it shouldn't play.

Looks great, thanks Natemz

quick question......what do the permissions of R/O and R/W mean/do? I have root explorer, and wasn't sure what it means to have it mounted as either R/W or R/O.

thanks!

thanks!

R/W gives you read and write access to a directory. Allowing you to modify files. R/O is read only. This is the default setting and only allows you to view files in a directory. Always put back to R/O when you are done.

Man that is so awesome! I didn't know you knew how to do this awesome work, I knew you were good with graphics and all just WOW! Thanks running the Black one right now

Does this only work on the Droid X or will it work on other phones, for example the Backflip.

If your Backflip or any device that is rooted and has Root Explorer installed you can change your bootanimation.zip file. You can also do it thru ADB but I can't tell you the step by step bc I am just learning it myself.

The green one looks great on my D2. Thanks a lot. Going to try the black one next.

Any chance you could throw together a blue one?

Mmk, just tried to do this on my Backflip but it didn't work.
I download BLDbootanimation.zip
I renamed it to bootanimation.zip
I copied to my Sdcard.
I renamed it to bootanimation.bak
I then copied it to system/media

My boot animation was still the same.
Anyone know where I messed up?

u had to rename the bootanimation that was already there to .bak for it to be a backup. the one u download from this thread, keep it .zip and then it will show :)
