cutom rom help and suggestions

I have an s3 that has the most up to date update and it kills the battery and I want to flash a custom rom but a beginner can anyone show a link or a step by step tutorial so I can root and flash a rom. Id prefer cyanogenmod but open to suggestions please help

Yes I have the 4.4.2 update for my s3 from Verizon

You can't flash a ROM or even a custom recovery the 4.3 update locked the bootloader so tight it will never be unlocked again
