Cutting off sound

I'm new to Droid from Blackberry and one thing I miss is silent mode actually being silent! When I cut silent mode on my Droid certain apps will still make noise (and LOUD ones) such a Words with Friends. Is there any way to completely silence the phone?

you'd have to turn your media volume down as well. but words with friends just updated to have sound options
