Cyanogen is playing tonight! :)

i dont twitter, any updates from cyanogen tonight about the status on the EVO ROM?

lol I made a twitter account just to follow Evo news...

So Cyanogen, unrevoked, and some other tech related tweets come to me.
Like Palmsolo, who's Matthew Miller from ZDNet/WMexperts.. he uses an Evo now so it's cool to see what he has to say.

feedback on the build yet? (i can't afford to be THAT early of an adopter, lol, I'm not experienced enough with coding or flashing roms or anything like that to take the risk of it not working right or breaking something.)

yeah i know it's early, this is really meant to be a silly post.

Running SUPER FAST!!!!!!

Now the "fun" of re-doing everything I had set up nice! UGH! Good problem to have I suppose!

Any luck with cameras? I thought I saw a twitter post from Cyan that seemed to indicate they weren't working yet.

*EDIT* Nevermind, found this thread over at XDA about the nightly. They say cameras work, 4G does not.

Looks like I know what I'll be doing tomorrow :D

Camera and Camcorder both work as well as front camera and camcorder. I also went from having 3 touch points to 5 on dotty, so that's pretty neat too. It's running like a top so far!

Only bug I've seen thus far is in notifications, it says I have a voicemail that I can't clear out. At first, it dialed some odd # but I changed my settings so it at least checks my own voicemail. I'd like to get the standard sprint visual voicemail working, anyone with the .apk, send it on over!

So, for those of us who are new to Android ROMs (seduced by the EVO to leave Apple and join the Android Phanwagon), what is the development cycle like on this kind of thing? How often do updates usually come out, and how long does it usually take to get a beta release that might be slightly more reliable.
Mind you, I am NOT complaining. I am a firm believer in supporting those doing the work through early adoption and constructive feedback (not to mention DONATING). This is just all new to me and I'm curious. This Cyanogen ROM strikes me as the first user generated software development that has really captured the imagination (other than rooting software).

So what else isn't working right now? 4G I can live without for now. Is he working on getting it working, though?

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear in my post. I actually meant specific to this build. They refer to it as a nightly build, which is new to me. I meant to stick specifically to the subject of the thread (Cyanogen).
One of the reasons I ask about the development cycle with respect to specific mods is because of the discrepancy between stable mods and those that aren't as well tested. For example, I know on these forums, RvU gets a lot of love due to how thoroughly it is vetted before being released for general consumption.
I hear you. Tons and tons of beta and new software out there. In fact, it's the overwhelming nature of what's available that leads me to this question. I'm sure after having been immersed in the community for a while, I'll be on top of things. In the meantime, I'm trying to play catchup. The Cyanogen mod, being the subject of so much discussion, seems like a good place to start digging in.

FM Radio doesn't work, and he had said in the past that HDMI would not be working for this first build. I did see an update in the source tree that indicated something about HDMI, but I haven't heard for sure if it works or not.

This is a nightly and has some rough edges, but so far it seems at least good enough to be a daily driver, as long as you don't need 4G, HDMI, or FM radio. It sounds like there may be some voicemail issues, based on the XDA thread, so that might be a bigger problem.

Yes 4G and HDMI and FM radio are planned to come. I expect FM radio is at the bottom of the list priority wise. Cyanogen has stated that his end goal is to have the HDMI just output the entire display all the time, so you could use the phone with a monitor or TV if you desired, not just for photos and videos. 4G sounds like a problem area, there isn't much at all in terms of open source 4G drivers for them to build off of. But I expect we will see it before long.

In terms of when we will see a "beta" or "RC" build, I think it varies, and it will depend on what the team decides are show stoppers (HDMI/4G or other bugs that come along) and how long those take to fix. I would guess we are looking at 2 weeks - 2 months for a beta or RC.

4 files? All I used was the nightly.zip and gapps.zip ..... what other two are you refering to?

This is another case where clockwork would not be advised since it sucks at wipes....but I'm sure you know that already.

Maybe you have a corrupted zip.... try re-dl'ing the nightly and see if that helps any????

Edit : I see what you did for the two other files.....updated radio's, I already had that and that's where the confusion came in! It was a late night, lol.
