[ROM] CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0-RC1 (08/15/2010)

From XDA and Darchstar:

CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.2 (Froyo) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.

Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
 * Your warranty is now void.
 *
 * The CM team is not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
 * thermonuclear war, you getting fired because the alarm app failed, or anything whatsoever.
 * Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
 * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
 * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
 */

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Visit the CHANGELOG for a full list of changes and features!

All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! Send pull requests with your changes!

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 6 (or coming from another ROM)?

HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.
- Pastebin links preferred

Sweet! Nice to know that they're getting closer, though, I think I'll wait for the fully operational one. No camera is kind of a dell breaker for me.

You can get preview to work by using a third party app. This is a really good Rom, more so since it is based on Froyo and Cyanogen.

I'll answer my own question: it's awesome and yes it's overclocked. I mean holy crap.

One thing I didn't know about was that the Market tries to restore all of your apps when you sign back in - is that new? Cuz it slowed down the phone tremendously at first and I was bummed. But now that it's done this thing is crazy nice.

The Market has crashed a lot, but it works mostly when you just try again, and for sure the camera preview isn't working, but I've done a lot on this thing this morning and that's all I have to "complain" about (if you can call this nirvana complaining!). I haven't yet tried any augmented reality stuff (Yelp's Monocle, Layar, Wikitude, etc) so I don't know if the camera's shortcomings are spilling into those yet.

I installed the ROM and all I am getting is strings of light forming into an an X with the Android man in the middle. What should I do?

I hope the camera becomes fully functional at 5mp and video as well. I just ordered my first droid phone yesterday and have been reading everything I can about modding the hero and this looks really promising! After rooting I am planning on going with the IcedHoneyBun to start off with but this has me very excited! I am coming from a regular no frills phone that is a pain just to text from so this is just FANTASTIC!

Mad hat: first boot takes a minute. But before flashing, wipe everything, including your bum... well not really, just data wipe/ dalvik and ext partition.

prr2freya: Im personally going back to IcedHoneyBun for now.

Tried Cyanogenmod6 test 4 for a few hours last night. Loved it, but unfortunately couldn't keep using it because of how much I actually use the camera on my phone. I actually thought because Sense isn't there I wouldn't like it, I was wrong.

Back to IcedHoneyBun for now though.

Also, flashing new roms is addictive.

I have installed the CyanogenMod 6.0 and it works great except there is no Market app. I tried to flash the Google ****s rom thinking it would just add the ****s but it went back to the strings of light forming into an an X with the Android man.

All I did to add the ****S was to download the rom, take a nandroid and flash the rom. Should I have performed a WIPE before trying to install the rom? Is there a way to just get the market app, which is all I want?

You need to flash Google Apps (the ****s part) in order to have market, but will also install some other apps. I flashed 85 because 91 isnt fully compatible yet. I wiped everything, then flashed the ROM then the Google Apps then rebooted and setup my phone normally.
