Cyanogenmod for SCH-I545 S4 and SM-G900V S5

Hello! Do I need root to install CyanogenMod on my s4 or s5? I'm using the CyanogenMod installer and it doesnt say if it requires it or not. Here's a link to the website

It would probably be best if you rooted, and then flashed a custom recovery to flash Cyanogen as opposed to using the installer. I have run into several threads about issues with the installer.
