Lol...I got that email as well.

So I'm running this currently. What do I need to do when Sprint releases 2.1 officially?

Wait about 20 minutes for the Dev's to come out with a complete 2.1 mock up of that release so things like Visual Voice Mail work. Otherwise, nothing. You could risk bricking your phone using the Crappy RUU. I have yet to get it to recognize my phone, which could be a good thing as a lot of people as of late have been reporting bricks.

So basically you're saying there is no real reason to go to the official release? I've not noticed anything wrong with this 2.1 release that I'm concerned about. Sure Visual Voicemail is nice but its not a deal breaker.

Not really. As Gbhil stated, its more than likely not going to be as fast, so why would you want it other than future selling point of the phone.... like when the supersonic comes out :)

Flashed this rom last night and I'm shocked how fast my hero is now. I didn't use any of the Sprint apps so I'm not missing them.

This is pretty awesome. I got it to work. I just want to know that if I plug the phone back into HTC sync will my contacts go back onto my Hero?

Hi, i just installed this yesterday and totally love it. The only problem i have is that my Facebook account doesn't sync. When i go to link any of my contacts, the Facebook contacts do not appear at all.

I've seen a couple of people have trouble with this at XDA, and i looked for a solution. Some people suggested removing the account, adding it again. I even wiped and put the ROM back on, but still nothing.

Is there a fix for this that i may have missed?

Thanks!

I have the same issue. Tried a couple things to no avail. Hunting for fixes in that thread on xda is hard considering how long it is.

had the same problem what worked for me was going into the menu>settings>accounts&sync>and facebook then uncheck and check the contacts tab and press sync now. Then check your contacts
That worked for me hope it works for you

Pretty new to Android world

Sorry for my dumbness here

I used Blackberry in the last two years, I had every model(11 in total) and I loved every one.

In the last two months I tried to try something new: I bought an iPhone. I hated it the first day. This week I restarted the experience with the Hero(I traded it for a BB 8130 so it was a big deal ahah). I use it since sunday and I love it, new features compared to my berry, better email integration, blahblahblah... Only miss Blackberry Messenger lol, I keep dreaming!

I intalled a lot of leaked OS in my berries and I want to do the same on my Android. So what I need to know? How I do that? Any way to back up my data? Does it exist more that one version of the OS 2.1(berries use more than one version, ex: on my 9700 I run 5.0.0.566, so for the Hero any 2.1.0.2 for exemple?)? Any risk to domage my device, berries always have a way to get out of trouble with a 507 error code...

I heard somewhere that when you install the 2.1 OS you lose the Sense UI interface... Does it true? If yes any way to get it back?

I need a good Android teacher here :p

Back up: yes, you could just save you stuff from the SD card to your hard drive, apps and cache have apps like titanium backup but I started from scratch on DC v1.0 and didn't get a backup software.
You would need to Root / wipe/ flash. There are tutorials all over here how to do so on the CDMA hero and GSM hero depending on which you got. They are different, as are the ROM's
There are several different ROM's out there that run different OS's some 2.1, others 1.5 and one 1.6.
Risk, always, following directions minimizes this risk and remember: Nandroid backups are your friend. As long as your phone turns on, you can pretty much restore to a previous point in time and be safe. As far as Leaks go, there aren't any specifically for the Hero, and what people have done is made the leak for the Eris work on the Hero (and quite well, I might add).
No, you don't lose sense if you install a ROM with Sense built in. DamageControl v1.0 has sense.

Is anyone else having a bunch of data connection errors? It seems to happen pretty regularly when I'm using 3g and never when I'm on Wifi. Generally whatever I'm doing will eventually work, but these errors are weird.

pops up with a "data error" or an "sms error"? Every once in awhile. Had 2 or 3 yesterday, usually not long after a call, and while I'm in very low service areas

Did you update to the newest version? I haven't but i heard there were issues with it. I haven't had too many data connection errors, but I also did some other tweaks recommended in the forum at XDA so I dunno which would have helped it if thats the case.

The Damagecontrol Thread at XDA has 3 links: URL, Mirror 1, Mirror 2. All are on different sites. Do I need to put all 3 on the SD card or just choose one? Only my second time flashing a ROM, so would rather ask first than later.

I only chose one (the main link) and it seems to be running pretty smooth. For my first time using a ROM, I'm pretty happy with the whole process. Seems pretty painless.
