Data recovery from P20 with broken screen

Can anyone help me out with a method to retrieve photos from my P20?

The screen is broken so cannot access the phone at all. It switches on though...

I have tried a couple of applications (Droidkit etc) but from what I can tell, you need to actually be able to get into the phone to allow data transfer.

Is there a way to hook it up to my laptop and simply view the contents...like accessing it as a HDD?

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any way to access the data on the phone using a PC connection without unlocking the phone screen.
