Data still used when Wi-Fi is turned on, Verizon won't help

I am having the same problem. Phone reports about 325 MB through Wifi, about 1225 MB through data, but the My Verizon app is reporting about 1600 MB data so that's about half of the 3GB I'm allotted (normally 2, extra 1 promotional this month). I hope the fix comes soon. I have to monitor my usage. I don't reset until the 22nd.

I'd call now...just in case you need documentation later.

I know this isn't the fix everyone is looking for, but I downloaded a widget to toggle mobile data. I didn't notice the data, but I *did* notice the battery usage - a lot of it was going to that radio, which made no sense because I almost never use data services when I am not under wifi. So there should have been nearly no battery usage from that radio. Instead it was nearly as high as screen usage giving me a pretty good hit on the battery. I toggle it off now when I'm under wifi and while it's an annoyance it's not major. And battery is where it should be.

I note that the mobile data radio is off on my Moto X 14 when I am under wifi. So hopefully Lollipop will fix this. But since the Moto worked liked that on KK, it should work anyway. Heck, my Razr MaxxHD did that just fine. This was a stupid. major bug to allow to slip by!

Customer service is a thing.
I had to put that in its own sentence because it doesn't belong in the same sentence as Verizon.
But yeah, like others have said, keep calling back until you get an answer that you like. Once you get an answer that you like make sure you politely inform the person who gave you that answer that it appears that there are other Verizon employees who are unaware of this issue and they might want to ensure that it gets communicated company wide that way you (maybe) won't have to deal with again when the bill comes because and you have overage charges.

When connected to WiFi make sure you have the "Restrict background data" box checked so you don't have any surprises and use opera mini as your primary browser. That's helped me lower my data usage.

I had a similar problem last year when we upgraded my wife's phone to a Samsung Gs4. Our mobile data usage jumped large. After spending a couple of days chasing my tail with Verizon support, I discovered that the WiFi Security Key Code (WEP, WPA, etc) was off one character on the Gs4. Effectively, she had no WiFi access and defaulted all data to mobile data. That was an easy, quick, and permanent fix.

How do I check on my phone WIFI usage and Mobile Data Usage?

Then what do I do with these numbers to compare and see if Data is being charges? Against my account?

Settings / data usage. That shows data usage since a specific time (you can set the date that data limits start on your account ("data usage cycle" field.) Tap the menu control top right to check "show WiFi usage" to get WiFi data as recorded by the phone. You can slide the time arrows on the graph to change the timeframe for the totals.

There is an option on the advanced wifi page to "avoid poor connections". Could your wifi signal have been weak and it used your data in preference to your wifi?

There is a software update coming down which, for me at least, seems to have solved the problem. Unfortunately, Verizon doesn't mention whether the problem was specifically addressed, but so far it's looking good.
