Data Turning Off?

I just picked up the V10 on Saturday, and I love it with the exception of one thing... My data, or maybe just Gmail, does not get email when the phone is in stand by. When I double tap the screen to wake it, the Gmail comes in. I checked my account and it's set to sync. I checked wf-fi and it's set to stay awake when the phone is off. Power save is not on and no third party apps to control power or anything like that.

Will it just take a coupe days for Gmail to sync properly, or is something else going on? I don't have this issue on the iPhone using Outlook, or on the Moto X Pure.

I wish I could map it out for you as this happened to me when I first got my phone (Verizon).

I spent some time surfing around in the settings and was able to set Sync and Push Notifications to work - even when the phone was in sleep/doze mode.

All my sync settings look fine.

If I turn off wi-fi, and send an email to myself form another account/device it comes in right away. When wi-fi is on I get nothing. Seems to have something to do with wi-fi and the phone being off, even though it's set to stay away when phone is off.
