Data Usage Contest

I saw a guy who posts on AC, Who logged in 54GB's in one month?

I want to see someone top or to even getting close to that amount?

The most I have done is 15GB. And that was tethering like crazy,
streaming movies,Sprint TV,Pandora,Sprint GPS, Green finder GPS(golf) sending text with 8MP pictures,Downloading apps, etc, etc. I went hard core for a month. I have no idea how this person used that amount a data?

BTW,I average between 7-9GB a month still;)

I'll tether up one of Wall Streets servers. That oughta do it. At least for the workweek :P!

Not that tough. Full Blu-Ray rips range from about 10-50 GB. Usssseeeeennneettt.

and you guys wonder why they want to have tiered data plans??????

VZW Execs are reading this thread and either sweating balls or laughing maniacally right now.

Seriously though, what's to stop me from tethering this thing to my laptop and burning through torrents all night?

I got 26GB one month, but that was on a laptop. I couldn't imagine trying it on a phone.

I've heard VZW gets pretty sh**ty about torrents. And will send you letters/emails saying quit it or they'll move forward with hanging you out to dry. But I've only heard this and never seen it personally. I plan on tethering to my laptop, but keeping torrents to my wifi.

Is this only in regard to copyrighted material? Most of my torrents are of material not copyrighted in the United States (Japanese, Chinese, Korean films and uh "films")

I don't understand why Verizon is gracious enough to give us unlimited 4G and now you guys are going to intentionally abuse it. They did us a favor and now your going to do this kind of stuff. Common guys, use the phone as you would normally, be adults about this because they may not be gracious again if people start to pull stunts like this. I say use as if you would normally, not just do everything you can to abuse the network. But that's me, you guys can do what you want.

Misleading tweets in February, not ostracizing Best Buy when they jumped the gun, no Skype at launch, waves of delays, and no pre-orders.

They're kind of asking for it.

I actually agree with you, that this is the reason Verizon will be moving towards tiered data. I don't think I'd go as far as to call it abuse, especially when they give you the free hotspot and unlimited data. I agree intentionally trying to use more data screws ourselves in the end, but it IS a funny topic (in college my roommates and I had downloading contests).

By the looks of the replies on this thread (including mine) I think VZ's plan is pretty genius; as you can see the only way to really exploit the unlimited lte is to tether to a device. By letting us have it for free, lots of people will get hooked and come May will decide $20 /mo isnt so bad after all. If hotspot was free from the beginning, lots of people would never bother with it at all.

It's like drugs; the first taste is free.

If we truly have free range hotspot for 2 months without a cap I will be ripping through data next week. I'm staying somewhere with no internet access, with a bunch of other college kids with laptops, in a 4g supported area. I should probably charge...

Torrents would probably fall under

Examples of prohibited usage include: (i) server devices or host computer applications, including continuous Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing applications that are broadcast to multiple servers or recipients such that they could enable “bots” or similar routines (as set forth in more detail in (iii) below) or otherwise denigrate network capacity or functionality;

I kind of read that as "as long as you don't do it all the time, I s'pose." This wants to clamp down on constant network traffic.
