Howdy

Hopefully this is just a one off info post, but you never know.....

Had my 6p for 6 days and everything going well and then.... it just died - nothing, no screen, no response to power cable, absolutely dead. Had a look and found info for a reboot of Nexus 6 - didn't follow the info exactly to the letter as the phone sorted itself out and it appears to be back online and hunky dory again - but for anyone else in the same boat its :-

If your phone is on, turn it off.
Press and hold the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Power button at the same time until the phone turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode".
Press the Power button to start recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.

I didn't have to erase all data - everything has come back again but I'm guessing that there's a little glitch in there somewhere - if it crops up again I'll update.

Welcome to Android Central! Hopefully, it was due to instability caused by an installed app, rather than a problem with the firmware or hardware.

Here's a Sprint support page that describes how to boot into Recovery and do a factory reset: Perform a hardware factory reset - Huawei Nexus 6P 32GB. You can also wipe the cache partition (which won't erase any personal data), instead of selecting Wipe Data/Factory Reset.

That sounds a lot like an issue we had with my brother's Droid Mini. It appeared dead, but in actuality the issue was the screen wasn't showing an image. I had to do a modified recovery, where you hold the power and volume buttons down for 3 minutes and then I was instructed to wipe the cache partition. He had already moved onto another device, so my niece got it.

Around 6 months later it started doing it again. The tech who helped me didn't work there anymore and they told here they could replace it for $125. She keeps doing the modified reset whenever it pops up, but there's apparently no reason why it's happening (at least that they're sharing with the public).

Had a similar issue. Phone died in the middle of a call. Nothing seemed to help (long press on power button, recharge, etc.)

Tried the power button and down volume button. After having held both of them down for what seemed like at least 30 seconds, phone booted back up. The difference was my phone simply rebooted without having to go into recovery mode.

Only thing different today was that I installed iSyncr and downloaded a lot of songs this morning. Don't want to needlessly blame iSyncr, but that's the most recent activity before my crash.

This worked for me. Once in boot options only selected turn off and then it powered on normaly. Still dont understand why the phone dies. Its the second time it happens to me.

If your device wasn't low on battery then it shouldn't be just shutting off. Do you remember what the battery level was the two times that this occurred?

Just wanted to thank you albiet two years after making this post. My phone died just 3 days before I was set to return it to Google for cash towards a new Pixel 2 XL. You are a hero.
