Dead Pixels

I have dead black pixel about 1/4" up from the bottom of the screen in the center. I did not notice it until I was on a phone call or a web page. Verizon is sending me a replacement tomorrow. This phone is less then a day old.

I had a total of three thunderbolt's. My first had a white and black pixel that would not change color. So I replaced it then the second had two black pixels. I returned that one also then my THIRD htc thunderbolt. Which they said I could not return any more because my account was flagged, had 3 dead pixels! Word of advice for anyone interested, wait till they fix this issue. 3/3 dead pixel phones when I never had that issue before is to unsettling for me, now I sent in for the iPhone 4. SCREW htc.

Stories about the multiple screen problems makes me pretty content to just keep my 1 hot pixel TB, at least it's way off to the side and not particularly noticeable.

Anyone try jscreenfix in the market?? I posted a link earlier.

Trying it now for a stuck pixel

I let it go for 10 minutes, what I am seeing hasnt gone away. I am not sure if anyone can advise me on what im seeing as to whether its even a stuck pixel. I can see it on every color screen EXCEPT black. It doesnt show up as a black dot like a dead pixel. When the screen is black I cant see it though. It is like a rainbowish color that it just flips between...it kind of looks like when you see a mirage on the road or are looking at your screen through a greasy smudge. Its not grease under the screen protector, but its like 2 pixels long and 1 pixel wide... any ideas? I dont want to peel off the screen protector if its a pixel issue.

It could be dust.

Try opening a application that has some sort of lines so you have a witness mark (such as your stock messaging app). Then scroll the screen so that one of the lines is directly on that dot. Then look at the screen from different angles to see if the dot moves around or stays put on that line.

I opened up the stock msg app and put a line under it. Looked at it from an extreme top down angle and it was a good 1/16th of an inch below the line... so that means its dust and not the pixel i take it. I hate to return it for something like that... 1st one I got had an issue with the charger and it never fully charging. I thought it was probably the battery but they wanted to ship me a new device. Send me a new one and it was DOA so i took it into the verizon store and they gave me this one. It sucks because ive put screen protectors on 2/3 phones. This **** gets expensive on my end to keep replacing because VZW cant seal a damn screen. I have a gap at the top of my screen that is probably the thickness of 2 sheets of paper, I didnt think it would allow dust in but maybe it did? Think I should give them a call again tomorrow?

Also, is there any way to tell if it is dust under the glass or dust under my screen protector? I put the screen protector on at the same time I took off the plastic from the phone. Cleaned it with microfiber cloth and all of that. Id hate to take this one off too and have to go buy another pack...

idk. I have a spec of dust in mine at the bottom, I'm gonna leave it for now. It probably came from the factory like that. Or maybe since I carry in my pocket 24/7 it came in. I only noticed yesterday when I rebooted and was closely looking at the white boot screen.

I think would rather have this spec of dust than the chance I'll get a dead pixel, light leakage, etc...
That gap at the top is on every phone I believe.

You can tell if it's under the screen protector by looking at how close it is to the surface. Dust under the glass will look far away from you and wont move around as much in the test I told you about.
Also, if you take a bright like and look at the reflection of the screen you can sometimes see a little dimple in the screen protector where dust is directly under it.

if its under the screen protector, it usually makes a bubble and its pretty obvious.

What vendor refused to let you return a defective device? Was it Best Buy?

I can't imagine it was Verizon.

I'd file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I tried the jscreenfix for about 3-4 hours last night and it didn't change anything on my hot/stuck pixel. :/ I just have crap luck with dead/stuck/hot pixels, I've never had any of those "flashers" do anything to help even though I know some swear by them.

Can some of you guys post pictures in the first few posts so we can see the dead pixels. I know it's kinda silly, but I'm curious.

When I bought my TBolt, the girl selling me the phone was so confident about the way she put on screen protectors, claiming her friends paid her to do their phones. So she did mine and noticed a flaw in the first screen and redid it one or twice more to make sure it was done right. In the end, had a screen protector with no flaws, so I'm glad she took care of me, otherwise I may not have noticed it right away : /

But yeah, I'm curious to see these dead pixels, please ^_^

It actually was a Verizon store. I eventually was able to get a new iPhone 4 from calling customer support and talking to a supervisor. The sadest part is that I want the thunderbolt but because they only will allow me 1 final replacement phone I couldent try my chances with another defective tbolt.

I have a white/stuck pixel now too. Is this a hardware issue? Or is it a software issue that could be fixed by an OTA update?

I had one. Very tiny, tough to see but when I spotted it in the center of the screen, it was annoying on dark backgrounds (solid.) You can try to download software (stuck pixel or pixel fixer) from the market. If it doesn't work and you're within your 14 days, they may send a new one. It's hardware, not software.

I got a thunderbolt and two days later it had a dead pixel. So I replaced for a new one at Verizon. The same day I got my new one it had a dead pixel and the vib motor sucks compared to my first one. Seems like shotty parts. I'm going to give it one more try, if the new one fails...iPhone 4.

Wow had no idea there were that many defective devices out there. Had my thunderbolt since day one and no issues light leaks, dead pixels, etc. Seems strange that some people are getting multiple devices with dead pixels, are you guys getting these phones from corporate verizon stores or 3rd party vendors.

I had like ten all have had something. ALL had the light leak. Some had dead pixals, some dust under the screen. I had replacements from 3 different BBY and from verizon store and customer care. Something wrong with all, sucks cause the Incredible was just great.
