ARCHIVED: [DEAD ROM] LEGO-ROM-v2

OK when I flashed beezy's 806 kernel the sprint splash junk came back. I had removed that from Lego-Rom using a rom kitchen. Being I just got my boot animation to work correctly I was going to flash back to Xionia kernel to get rid of the sprint splash again. Well the sprint splash is still there, but more importantly my boot animation is borked again! It looks to be a kernel thing  not a rom or placement method.

EDIT.... Went back to beezy's 806 kernel and well sprint splash is there, but my boot animation is fixed! Something in Xionia kernel freezes my animation when it reaches its end, rather then looping it to start over like in beezy's 806 kernel, hmmm.

I didn't see that behavior... Just the warm phone bit.

I use a nexus boot animation...

EDIT - I just realized I'd never actually re-added the nexus boot animation to my lego install.

KSmith, is there any advantage to stagefright for the other components besides HTTP streaming? Like, are there any internal (local to the phone) things that are sped up at all with stagefright on? I could personally care less about NPR, so doesn't affect me at all either way. Much more concerned about proper video streaming. Does Winamp work properly with HTTP disabled in stagefright?

I personally never use stagefright buldprops. I don't use any app that would need it. Winamp will work fine without it. Shoutcast inside of winamp won't work. None of my streaming media apps need stagefright so it offers me no benefit. Others live and die by NPR and shoutcast so they have no option.

EDIT - Just wanted to throw it out there. Thats the beauty of this ROM. YOU get to decide whats right for YOU. Don't let my, Beezy, or nick's opinion influence your decisions. You want shoutcast .... flash the deluxe and jam out :)

I see, that's what I was wondering was if the SHoutcast would also be broken without HTTP portion enabled. Guess so :(

I guess my thinking is, why not just turn the other stagefright portions on then in the non-Deluxe version (just assuming that there might be some local phone Android specific things that could take advantage of it... forgive me if that's totally not the case, just guessing), and then "Deluxe" really just means "HTTP stagefright enabled"?

No big deal either way if you feel it's all too confusing for users though.. thanks for humoring my curiosity :)

unfortunately it doesnt work that way. See THIS POST

well crap. Unfortunately it cant be done. If you enable HTTP you need to enable everything otherwise youtube is a screwed up mess. If you enable everything but disable HTTP youtube works great but you negate the point by breaking streaming in apps like winamp. It's a lost cause. I tried about every combination of true false i could think of and no go ..... I tried guys.

Thanks for the effort, looked good on paper!

Saw that post earlier, but I think we're talking about two different things. What I'm saying is that, at least on the 2.2 Android docs, they talk about stagefright having benefit for streaming AND local media. If there's no detriment to enable stagefright for local media... why not just leave stagefright on all the time then? Is there any actual downside to that? If you just disable the HTTP portion, that should still leave stagefright enabled for local playback (now, whether or not local h264 files will have the green line or not is something I haven't actually tested yet... heh) and the advantages that might bring in performance (if any). So in essence there would be:

-all buildprops just have stagefright local stuff on
-the one called "Deluxe" just means that the HTTP portion is enabled

Again though, if that all seems like too big a hassle, then I'll just not worry about it at all and use the ones without stagefright (since in all likelihood the local acceleration benefits are probably negligible anyhow).

Thanks.

Unrelated to the stagefright stuff though, did you or beezy or Nick notice the prior post (that another user confirmed the same problem on) where the Gallery3d.apk app causes constant use of the proximity sensor and you can't make it stop? Happened to me again last night, and seems to be a known issue with that app according to XDA posts. There were some fixed ones available for other phones, but doesn't seem like you can use them outright. It's becoming quite frustrating, would be great if it's possible to get one of those versions ported to Lego. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Hey guys, tried to flash Beezy's kernel, the Boot-748-Max kernel won't boot up. I get the message:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/boot_748_max-B.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.

I flashed Beezy's 729 max no problem, it's just the 748 that won't load up.

That's a corrupt download. Re-download it.

I reloaded my lego rom nandroid...

I restored all of my applications (I could type this out if it's really meaningful...)

I normally turn off all syncing except for gmail...

however, I hadn't gotten to that point yet with Lego. so Facebook had 1 hour refresh turned on, background updates are turned off for Seesmic, turned off for tapatalk, I noticed that it was warm previous to making any tweaks to speed settings (eg it's at 600/245) (it didn't have any when I restored from backup...)

I ran the JIT + Accel build.prop...

I did swap out the battery icon's in the thunderom framework... (gave it a circle battery... but didn't re-compile or edit any of the xml files. I just replaced the dis-charge and re-charge icon's)

Note that the phone isn't excessively hot... but it is warmer than I get with thunderom with the 748 kernel loaded...

I ran top in an adb shell (3 runs)...

Grabbing just the applications showing cpu utilization from the 3 runs, I see:

User 16%, System 3%, IOW 0%, IRQ 0%
User 51 + Nice 0 + Sys 12 + Idle 250 + IOW 0 + IRQ 0 + SIRQ 0 = 313

(have to say I'm surprised about how much crap gets loaded by Android... I guess as long as it has memory to burn it loads everything... including stuff I don't generally launch)

Not sure what else to think... the phone's responsive enough... though I did notice interesting results when I'd press the power button... (sometimes it would work as expected, sometimes not so much)

I've also noticed that doing a "power off" while plugged into my notebook sometimes nets an interesting in-between state...

(what other information can I collect that would be meaningful?!)

Going to try seeing what happens with the other kernel...

How are you restoring your apps? Try this on a fresh install don't restore with titanium backup reinstall your needed apps from market see how things go.I don't use any backup programs or i'd test this myself.

Grab "AutoRun Manager" from the market, it will help stop those apps that are not (or rarely) used from loading.

something I worked up really quick:

I didn't have the time to read through all 30 pages and have already flashed the ROM. Sorry if this was already asked or answered. THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THE DEVS INVOLVED IN THIS!!

I also was wondering if there was a way to flash this to the bootup screen yet? Did I just miss something? Can't thank you guys enough. I like that bootup screen and that would complete my phone. :)
