My goal want to be harsh and I apologize if it sounds that way ( OAT, you hear me?) I just wanted to make sure both sides if the coin were covered. I don't think it's fair to blame el goog for LG's crap and vice versa. Also, this isn't a developer device so root support shouldn't be expected, rather appreciated if (when) it comes.

I agree with you though .. They pursue it half heartedly. If they wanted to kill root completely they could do it in about 5 minutes. Instead they play this stupid little game with all of us peeps.

I am literally hoping and praying the nexus s chatter on sprint is true. I REALLY want a developers device on a cdma network. When sprint lied to the world and said the original nexus was coming to them I pooped a little, here we go again! Where's my spare panties? LMFAO

No apologies required, just a good, open discussion about the goods and bads of VC. Certainly, there is a lot of variances in the goods/bads that each individual/phone sees. I did see significant differences in graphics, no difference in radio, wasn't having SD card trouble, and of course experienced the LG logo hang. Also, I am aware of unrooted phones experiencing the LG logo hang; at least that is what I am being told by a close friend who is a Sprint employee. Finally, I was unaware that the exploit patch came from Google; I had been assuming that was something implemented by LG/Sprint

FWIW, my phone's overall performance (reception, response) seems better with VC and TR 1.7, and I haven't had the LG hang (with the exception of when I first installed the VC update using the LG Updater tool but it hasn't happened since).

I tend to agree with KSmith, if they really wanted to stop the rooting they would. I've thought for a long time that they put just enough obstacles in the way to keep the hackers challenged. It would be boring if it were too easy ;)

Exploit patch was not related to LG/Sprint. It was to address malicious apps in the market

I'm looking forward to another phone from sprint as well besides their chunky keyboard phones :)

Allow me to play devils advocate...

# 3) my graphics appear the exact same, and my optimus is from 2 days BEFORE launch.
# 2) from what I understand, the hang issue impacts only rooted phones. As far as i'm aware, LG didn't root anybodys phone.
# 1) Google patched psneuter and RATC. Welcome to android .. The next patch will fix the next exploit and so on and so on into the sunset. This is how it works on every android handset. This is not unique to LG or sprint. Every single android phone I've owned has done this and typically, it's done with every release. HTC locks their hboot, motorola encrypts the bootloader, other companies patch their kernel. Your missing the mark and not recognizing the fact it wasn't patched before launch, and wasn't patched with v9. If I worked for a mobile phone company PSN and RATC would be blocked on every phone and encrypted bootloaders for all unless that phone is being marketed directly to developers like the nexus line but I digress.

Also...
All that and no mention of radio integration? Theres no reason to integrate the radio the way they did into an apk. It serves no functional purpose. I'm still not sure the reason behind it but this is definitely something LG and sprint should be blamed for.

Same on the display, my phone is from before launch and the screen still looks great. Although I won't be using it as much anymore due to some other things.

I'm having issues with colors not displaying properly on Youtube videos. Don't know what that's about.

Describe these color issues some more. This is the first I'm hearing of this. Mine looks the same but I'm intrigued. I wonder if this is like the EVO launch where HTC used 2 different screen manufacturers which led to color issues on different phones.

I wonder if the same method for identifying it on the EVO would work for us. The method escapes me but a quick google search would do the trick.

Do you have the Deluxe prop installed? I know that causes issues with some videos on some phones. Mine used to do it, then one day after a fresh install it didn't. Seems kind of random.

Here is a screenshot of the discoloration. I have a pink bar across the top of the screen and the colors are washed out. I do have the deluxe buildprop installed but I didn't have this issue before VC and 1.7. Still, this is the only issue I have with the rom. The increase in battery life and better reception outweigh this.

That bar on youtbe is from the deluxe buildprop. If you flash the stock buildprop back it fixes the banding issue. That is assuming you don't need stagefright enabled due to some other need such as shoutcast.

I tried to flash 1.7 on my V9 radio and the only thing that didn't work was 3G. just at first glance, 1.7 looks amazing. just wish there was an easy way for me to run it seeing as i have a refurb device and cant use the lg updater.

but job well done fellas.

edit - force flashed and am now running 1.7 issue free for the first few minutes.

Welcome to the VC club!

This is surely a stupid question, but this is my first time flashing a ROM, and when I boot into recovery mode, there is no option for making a backup. I followed THESE STEPS completely to get my phone rooted. Any help would be appreciated!

You have to use a custom recovery to make a backup. I recommend Drellisdee's Custom Recovery. It's what I use and it works great. The stock recovery (which I'm sure is what you have) does not give the option of making backups..

Also, since you are rooting for the first time, I am wondering why you are following a guide on how to UNROOT your device? Try this thread instead.

Hope that helps! :)

AthieN has you well on your way to resolution but let me interject by saying something people probably heard in school 1,000 times .... the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Another variation being theres no such thing as a stupid question. Either way, what I'm saying is it's better to ask/search/read first rather than in the middle of doing something and having that "oh shoot" moment.

You can substitute the word "shoot" for anything you'd like but remember, this is a family friendly place ;)

+1

The best way to learn is experiment and ask questions of those with experience. Thanks to all those here who show amazing patience and respect to those learning, it's a nice change.

From day one I have easily and thoroughly followed all instructions with no issues to report.

I am running 1.7 with all updates, with xionia overclocked at 787 with absolutely no stability issues whatsoever.

I have removed all apk's I dont use with titanium and I have LauncherPro running smoothly.
