ARCHIVED: [DEAD ROM] ThundeROM V1.8.3 4/5/2011

I am a n00b to Android (Optimus S is my first experience), so I apologize if I bring up something that has already been addressed. I have been using ThunderROM since the first version was released. It is very cool to see the improvements each time a new version is posted.

I am now running v1.4 and I like it. I installed the custom build.prop (deluxe) from the link since JIT and stagefright are no longer included. I also made a manual edit to fix youtube HQ video playback - changed TRUE to FALSE on the line "media.stagefright.enable-http=". I was wondering if this workaround will be incorporated into future build.prop files, or if a better workaround is being prepped.

For the record, I found the above workaround in a post on another forum after a google search regarding the green bar appearing in youtube HQ videos.

ummmm. don't do naughty things to your phone it has a way of getting back at you like having quadrant rate you below a magic...

actually i'm not sure how the hell this happened just that i know it's a complete glitch.

the score is a -2428 achieved with thunderom 1.4, zefie's 003 OC kernel at 806200 khz, and the build.prop deluxe. BTW for anyone wondering THIS IS NOT A STABLE COMBO, YOUR PHONE WILL RESTART EVERY FEW MINUETS, but it's a lot of fun to play around with, that is if you can get your phone to stay on long enough to even finish a full quadrant pass.

Also everyone should take note, this is not the fault of the developers who did NOT design their projects to be abused like this, it was my late night stupid idea, it just happen to have a funny result. Though on another more unofficial note, this combo does run stable at 787200khz, and the there is no difference in battery drain if you're using the phone moderately, it lasts me about 16-18 hours, it would probably go longer, but it get's plugged in before it ever gets critical so i'm unsure of the final number.

New ROM is great, but the transitions in Market are kind of annoying (opinions.... I know). They seem to make browsing the market take a little longer, not that phone is slower per se, just rather the transitions add an extra millisecond to the time it takes to be able to read the different screens. Again, great ROM and thanks for the hard work.

man I have read everything and I am still soo lost. can anyone put this in simple ****** terms for me. I do have some electronic backround but nothing like this... thanks guys

It's overwhelming at first. Basic steps are: 1) root phone 2) install custom recovery and 3) flash new ROM. I've pasted the post highlighting each step below. This will take you some time if you are starting fresh. As for rooting, you can take a shortcut called "z4root" but I've not tried that way... it's best to do it the "long" way as that will set you up for doing the required steps for the custom recovery. Go through these post in order. (sorry for non-clickable links, something is wrong with the link button)

Fantastic, thanks Ksmith and Beezy! 1.4 works great, and I prefer stagefright turned off...it feels just as zippy, but video playback seems improved. (I thought green lines on Youtube were normal!)

Removing stagefright nukes the Quadrant score, but Linpack score is still nice and high....and really all that matters is how it runs, not a number on a screen.

Thanks again!

+1 Its nice to see big numbers but in the end we all want a phone that functions without lag.

V1.4 may be used for LG Optimus One ? Thanks

Nope,we have roms in the work for the Optimus One and T just have to wait a little longer.

To use ThundeROM you need to do steps 2 and 3, (custom recovery, then ThundeROM installation). To do step 2, you need adb, which you can learn about how to use in step 1 :-).

You only have to update when you want to. ThundeROM is pretty darn stable, so you'd probably be fine never updating it. Of course, it's a Work-In-Progress, so they will be releasing updates with new features, bugfixes, etc. They've been AWESOME at releases so far, with frequent updates, but you aren't required to update...it's totally your choice.

The one caveat to this is the statement in post #1: "In a effort to keep things moving forward, we don't support builds that are not the most current version." So while certainly you don't have to update if a new release comes out, if you run in to an issue, you will probably be told to upgrade to the most recent version as the first troubleshooting step.

ah ok. thanks guys. Once I do it the first time Ill be set. Im the type of learner where I actually have to physically see it and do it to learn, just cant read it... Going to give it a go tonight when I get home from work and have some time on my hands

Tho this is true with any Software upgrade as the problem you are have may have been fixed in a later version.

Also Once I do my root and custom recovery and I get to the thunder rom portion, I,ve read post 1&2 do I just need to scan the code in post 3 for install it...
again thanks..

Prolly easier to manually download the ROM and just place it on your SD card. You can then boot in to the custom recovery and flash the ROM (per the instructions in the first post of course).

does this whipe everythign off the sd card in the process, or is it best to start with a fresh one and then when done put the one back in with all my saved files pics movies etc

I just noticed one other thing. Sometimes when I get a text, I press the power button to wake the phone and the screen does not come on. The key lights will light up but the screen will not wake. To bring it back I have to press and hold the power button and the power off menu will eventually come up I can cancel that and the phone will wake. It also seems to happen when I haven't gotten a text in a while. I noticed this yesterday after I installed ThundeROM and it has happen 2 other times, but never with the stock ROM

Trust me this happens in one form or another on every rom for this phone. It definitely happens in the stock rom. Maybe not exactly the same things will trigger it but like I said, in one form or another... I believe it's inherent to the android system on this phone

This is a bug from stock. I had it happen with in the first hours of having the phone. It's being looked into to see what we can do about it.
