I'm sorry :) Thunder-c.

Well, if I can get my phone back up and running, I'll definitely switch. I'm a bit concerned as this has gone on longer than the last few times...usually I can trick it, but now it's not responding as well...fingers crossed.

I've been running cwm now for a couple of weeks without a problem...

though I did have an issue with cwm ".1" with something very similar... at that point I could get into my primary rom, but NOT into recovery...

managed to reflash the other recovery... but I"ve been running .4 now for a while with no issues...

Not sure what to think... scared to try some roms because of issues others have had...

Agreed...most of the time if something goes wrong it's because the instructions weren't followed to the exact letter or trying to take shortcuts, but in this instance folks seem to be doing everything correctly and still having problems. Not as big of a deal if you are happy with the ROM you are using and don't need to reboot often if at all, but I'd love to try out CM7 and others but don't want to spend a half hour or more trying to get the phone to come back alive.

Well I updated using the instruction from RobChaos and on this forum as well...everything seems to be working. I do miss how the email icon matched the yellow and white. The sense mail icon is cool but it doesn't match...that's just my opinon though. :)

EDIT: I was using Launcher Pro and it used the the yellow email icon, which didn't match the new on this rom. I just readded the application to my toolbar at the bottom and the icon matched. Sorry for the confusion.

I can't get to recovery...I'm trying now and it just sticks on the LG logo. The only time I am able to get back in my phone is if I do a yet-to-be-determined number of attempts at pulling battery, trying to get in to recovery, pulling battery, plugging in, pulling cable out, and eventually I pretend to give up and go brush my teeth. When I get back the screen has turned from the LG logo to the battery charging icon. At that point I just hit the power button and it boots full in to ThundeROM. Seeing the big battery charging icon is the key, but I can't figure out how to get there reliably. If I could, I'd document it. So far it seems that the key is to be watching crappy TV while drinking beer and mindlessly pulling and unpulling the battery...leaving the phone unwatched while brushing your teeth also seems to be key.

Does your method work all the time...when you get the LG icon you pull battery, wait a few moments, pop it back in, and then use the key combination to get to recovery?

Sorry, I only did this once. I am not eager to try it again. For now I am going to just remember to not shut the phone off completely.

I am using recovery build RA-thunderc-1.1.0-GNM

For those who are coming from 1.6.2 with custom recovery and do not want to lose layout and apps:
1. make a nandroid backup
2. Reboot and once phone is b back on run lg updater tool.
3. Once update is done and phone reboots, immediately reboot into recovery.
4. Restore your 1.6.2 backup
5. clear cache and dalvik cache
6. Flash 1.7
7. Enjoy.

Another successful update!!!:D I followed the above steps which took me about 25 minutes to complete. All apps (214 according to Titanium including some Sprint apps) are up and running without even needing to reload anything thanks to the restore. Only thing I need to add now is the Gingerbread Keyboard from the market. This was much easier then I had feared. I'm glad I waited till the dusted settled on VC instead of reverting all the way back to stock.

Special thanks to Beezy and KSmithInNY for making a GREAT ROM!

Great job on the ROM. One queston and one comment.

I have already posted this and got no answer. I have been unable to find any info about ext partitions. I was wondering what it was for, why I would use it, and would I use it on ThunderROM if I use app2sd and or Titanium Backup. Also I find the new power on change EXTREMELY aggravating. As some else said, can this be an option in future releases, or is this something easy to change or is there any instructions anywhere how change the stuff like this in a rom? I know you said you wanted to do the ROM the way you wanted it, so I asked about changing it myself. Other than that the ROM is GREAT. Runs fast and well and I love the free space it creates since it is such a premium on this phone.

What would be the obvious advantages of ThundeROM over a rooted, Jit enabled, stagefright enabled, hardware accerlerated stock ROM with Xionia Recovery?

Like the looks a lot, but looks alone don't sell me on anything.

Just for the record:

Started with TR 1.6.2 with V9.
1. Updated to VC through LG update tool on PC.
2. Let phone reboot completely. Manually made sure PRL and Profile were updated.
3. Powered off.
4. Volume + Home + Power to bring up custom recovery.
5. Wiped data, cache, and dalvik.
6. Flashed TR 1.7.
7. Reboot.

Works flawless.

Also, I found out what was killing my battery mentioned in my previous post. It was not the overclocked kernel at all, but the stupid Facebook app. As soon as it was started for any reason, my battery would just drain out. I have since uninstalled it and my battery lasts FOREVER.

Excellent news...I'm glad for you :)

I was happy with TR 1.6.2 and believe I am going to be just as happy if not happier with TR 1.7. Phone is very responsive, have lots of internal storage and best of all is updated with vc (I like to stay current ;) )

Sorry I can't help with an explaination on the ext partitions but if you look at post #2 there is a "zip" at the bottom that will allow you to flash the power buttons back to the original settings. I personally like the new way since I've butt dialed a few times. lol

Well, I'm unfortunately pretty much screwed. After hours I have yet to get the magic charging icon that lets me get back in to Android. I can't get in to recovery, the thread that talks about unbricking for some phones does not work for me, and I don't know what else to do. This morning I had a perfectly working ThundeROM 1.7, VC baseband phone and now because I dared to power completely down and can't find the magic unknown combination of actions, I have a useless piece of frustration. I guess I could take it to sprint and see if they can try to get it working.

I wish I knew more so I could help you. Maybe one of the devs can help you think of something else to try. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Did you try leaving the phone plugged in with the battery removed to try to get the insert battery message?

Were you able to get into emergency mode in the past and can't do it now? When I have been bricked I have always been able to get into emergency mode even if the screen doesn't say so. Here's what I have done:

1. Take out the battery. Wait maybe 5 seconds.
2. Put the battery back in. Get myself near my computer and my usb cable.
3. Hold down the following buttons: search, camera, vol-down.
4. While holding down those buttons, put in the usb cable and press (and hold) the power button, all at the exact same time, or as close to the same time as possible. This is not an easy thing to do, as zefie says in the unbricking thread. For me, I use my left hand to hold down camera, vol-down and then eventually power, and use my right hand to hold down search and insert the usb cable.

If you get it right you should hear the usb ding on your computer because it recognizes that something has connected. If you don't hear the ding then it hasn't worked right, and normally you see the LG logo and it stays locked like that. Then I pull the battery and start over. Once you get it right and hear the ding, your phone is in emergency mode and is ready to be force flashed with V9 (you can just click "restart" in the LG Updater software when it tells you to connect your phone). I should know, I was in the EXACT same position as you just this morning: ThunderRom 1.7 on VC, became a brick when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on. I suspect you have been inserting the usb cable a bit before you press power; I have probably made this mistake about the half the time I have tried to get into Emergency mode. Good luck.

I am having trouble with widgets or at least for sure the Weather/Time Widget sticking. I will put it on and then just a few seconds later it is gone. Seems weird since that is a widget within ThundeROM. Any ideas? Sorry if this has been answered, I searched.

Xionia 0.8

I have been noticing my free space slowly but steadily dropping with Xionia 0.8. From 71mb to 69mb a few hours later.

I flashed back to Thunderom 1.7 with stock kernel. With all my data and stuff its like 50mb more free space.

tl;dr version: I agree with Xionia 0.8 possibly causing "Low Storage" error. I probably should have looked for a log.

I am looking forward to moving to TR1.7 VC, but it would seem there are issues to be worked out yet. Still on TR1.5 and it works flawless.

Once again thanks to the inventors/maintainance/testers of this ROM. Did I mention I love Andriod over WM Pro.

Dear cc0n01,

I love you. Seriously.

Sincerely,
ccrs8

EDIT: I had tried series of having the plug in before and after inserting the battery and giving certain amount of time between each activity, but I didn't realize that the phone is supposed to give a warning about no battery. I removed the battery and then plugged and unplugged my phone in a bunch of times, not messing with the removed battery at all. The first dozen times or so the button lights went on and that was it, but on approximately the 13th time the insert battery message popped up. I put in the battery, and the LG logo went up for a few seconds and then came the glorious battery charging icon. I love that icon. Pressing power took me to the LG logo, then the "android" splash screen, and then THUNDEROM.

I've been able to get it in to emergency mode in the past, but the screen had said so. It turns out that I was able to get it in to emergency mode again today, but was having driver issues and the screen was unresponsive. I also have the added, unrelated issue of only having access to Windows at work where ports are blocked and installation is somewhat restricted. A few days ago I had to use a friend's computer to use the LG installer to get me to VC. Up until then, I could use Ubuntu without problem to do all of this fun phone stuff. Anyway, thanks to another post and more patience than I usually display, I was able to get my phone back up and running. I think I'm going to have to set up my computer here at home to dual boot in to XP so I can more easily recover from all this phone fiddling.

By the way, I found using the corner of my computer chasis or my chin to be the best way to hit the power button once everything else is in place in order to get in to Emergency mode.

Thanks everyone for all your help, and hopefully I can help people out in the future the same way.
