Debating iPhone 4s vs Rezound - going to the source

Yeah, I have found 4G to be largely overhyped. The main thing I like about it is just that you can use data and voice at the same time.

the Rezound is one of two phones that can do voice & data over 3g (on CDMA) because of its radios. the other is the Thunderbolt.

I knew my Rezound could do that, but I assumed (I know, it was wrong of me) it was a next-gen phone thing and should have been ubiquitous in modern Android devices. My thinking was that VZW finally got tired of AT&T lording that over them.

If this is true though, and only the T-Bolt and Rezound can do this then I'm going to have some fun with my buddy who bought the RAZR lol!

Make sure to do it in a 3G area. ;)

I'm pretty sure that is correct. I remember reading about the Thunderbolt being the first phone on Verizon that could do it, and now the Rezound. I tested it and it works. So have others. I have not heard of any other phone doing this.

Put both your phones on 3g only, then load up a webpage and hit refresh just to make sure it's not cached. voila. you should have bragging rights!

I live in a area of weak 3G, being able to stream music, netflix, YouTube without buffering is not really possible for me on 3G. 4GLTE works just fine without any skips. Also, heavy picture ladden emails and websites wil load substantially faster. Of course, if you live in an area of strong 3G bandwidth, then this won't be a problem.

I'll chime in cause i was a die hard iphone fanboy til recently. I've had the rezound for 3 weeks and really do like it. Is it better, well that's all in what you're looking for. The screen is just as nice if not better due to the size. The camera is just as good if not better. I think that the speed of switching screens is also better, but there can be a bit of lag if using a 3rd party launcher.

The main reason i got rid of the iphone was because all of the things I jailbroke the iphone for, you can do on android without jailbreaking. I will say that if you plan on modding, while you can do more with android, it's a bit more difficult and takes longer. If you flash a ROM on android you have to reset the phone and reinstall your apps etc. With an iphone you just pick which theme you want and respring.

Both are great phones, it depends on what you're looking for. I like to tinker so i think unless the iphone 5 comes out and blows me away I'll be sticking with the rezound for a while.

You know I've been trying this out on my wife's Rezound without success. If I'm on a call & open the browser in a 3G area, I cannot connect. Not sure if there is a setting somewhere?

not sure. maybe the always on mobile network setting? maybe you are in a power mode that is not performance and it shuts this off while you are on a call or other times?

i tested it again. cdma only. wifi is off. status bar clearly showing 3g. 4g is disabled.
i called the directv toll free number then loaded up some web pages i have never visited before. then refreshed them.

works like normal.

Changing themes should be as easy as the iPhone, you just need a launcher that supports it.

Or a ROM such as CM or MIUI

Hey guys - thanks for all the input, I made the jump.

The PLUS side of it all, the guy I traded with had the extended battery addon.

OK - so which ROM is best? I have Clean ROM 1.4, and I have to say - not to impressed with it. I noticed there doesnt seem to be as much rom support for this phone? No Cyanogen?

What do you all recommend?

Stick with CleanROM for now. We've only recently received an unlocked boot-loader and ROM-flashing capability. One of the unfortunate side to Android devices is initially they get a lot of dev-attention, but in the time between release and when root and flash ability is achieved the devs taper off. There will still be a bit before we get mods such as CM or else, but we will get them.

If there's anything that bugs you about CleanROM, post in the thread in the rooting and roms subsection up above, the dev actually frequents the forum so he may be able to answer any questions or issues you have with it.
